The 60-year-old actor has gone through traumas including a battle with drinking, and was left devastated when his friend Bob Saget \u2013 with whom he starred in the classic \u2018Full House\u2019 sitcom \u2013 died aged 65 in January 2022 after accidentally hitting his head.<\/p>\n

He told Page Six about how he has been seeing Hollywood\u2019s go-to therapist Phil Stutz \u2013 the subject of a 2022 Netflix documentary by his famous client Jonah Hill<\/a>: \u201cI probably wouldn\u2019t be here (without him.)<\/p>\n

John added he has been going to Phil for \u201cclose to 20 years\u201d, saying: \u201cHe was big into helping me get sober.\u201d<\/p>\n

John opened up about his battle with alcohol and 2015 DUI arrest in his 2023 memoir \u2018If You Would Have Told Me\u2019, telling how a month after he was seized by police he entered a substance abuse program.<\/p>\n

\nHe added: \u201cWhen I went to Stutz one of the first times, he said, \u2018You know if you weren\u2019t so f****** stupid you\u2019d realize how good you have it\u2019, and I was like, \u2018You\u2019re right\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nJohn \u2013 who has son Billy, seven, with his 38-year-old actress wife Caitlin McHugh \u2013 plays a family counsellor in Hulu\u2019s \u2018UnPrisoned\u2019, and said he became such a fan of therapy he introduced his late \u2018Full House\u2019 co-star Bob Saget to his psychiatrist.<\/p>\n

\nHe added: \u201c(Bob) was a bit of a\u2026 he drove me crazy (when we first met) and I said, \u2018You gotta go into therapy if you want to be friends with me\u2019, so he went to Stutz and Stutz helped him too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nJohn used his therapy sessions as inspiration when taking on his new role in the second season of \u2018UnPrisoned\u2019, which features Kerry Washington, 47, as a relationship therapist and single mother whose life is turned upside down when her father, played by Delroy Lindo, 71, gets out of jail and moves in with her and her teenage son.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
