The \u2018Latch\u2019 singer, 32, was photographed using a cane and wearing a leg brace in January and has now spoken out about how he ended up in agony and temporarily crippled after they tore their ACL and had to be rescued during a ski trip.<\/p>\n
Sam \u2013 who is non-binary and uses they\/them pronouns \u2013 told the \u2018Sidetracked\u2019 podcast: \u201cI\u2019ve been really focusing on my mental stuff for the last seven months because I actually broke my ACL.<\/p>\n
\u201cI completely ripped my ACL. I was skiing. I was an idiot and went on a black slope on the second day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got taken down in a blood bag. It was the worst. It\u2019s a permanent thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHe went on about the lasting impact of his horror injury to his ACL: \u201cIt\u2019s in between your bones and helps you jump and spring around.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt completely ripped and I decided to go down the non-surgical route but I couldn\u2019t walk for a month on this leg and it was awful.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt was the first time I\u2019d ever not been able to move and I was holding onto a bit of weight. I was very anxious. I used it as an excuse to get my s*** together.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSam also told how they have tried to wipe old flames from their life by getting rid of their mobile phone and starting afresh on one without any social media.<\/p>\n
\nThe singer added: \u201cI actually just got rid of my phone and I got a new phone. It\u2019s the first time I don\u2019t have my library of music, that I\u2019d had since I was like 11.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI started again \u2013 fully started again. I needed an American number and my phone was just full of people like exes and all these different people through the years.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I took social media off. Everything It\u2019s crazy. I find myself sitting on benches now in parks just looking at the trees.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSam is due to make a stage comeback next month for a performance at the BBC Proms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
