Claim to Fame<\/em> season 3 contestant Jill Kurlfink<\/strong> is close with her celebrity relative, John Stamos<\/strong><\/a>, but even she learned some new information from his 2023 memoir, If You Would Have Told Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, some of the things that he talks about in the book I was here for and I also experienced, but while I was reading it, it was kind of cool to learn the more in-depth version of things that were going on,\u201d Jill exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> following her elimination during the Wednesday, July 17, episode of the show after Stamos, 60, was revealed to be her uncle. \u201cBecause I was so young during some of it, obviously my parents were telling me things that [were] a little bit of a lie to protect me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stamos opened up about his struggles with alcoholism<\/a> in the book, recalling how he \u201cdrank a bottle of wine just to forget what just happened\u201d after he got a DUI in 2015. (In November of that year, the actor pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor of driving under the influence and was sentenced to three years of probation).<\/p>\n

In his memoir, Stamos cited lingering grief from his 2005 divorce<\/a> from Rebecca Romijn<\/strong> and the 2014 death of his mother as the reasons for his troubled state of mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy marriage has busted up, but it\u2019s the loss of my mom, Loretta, who died nine months ago, that has me spiraling. She kept me anchored, solid, and straightened out for most of my life. I\u2019m feeling adrift and alone without her. Empty,\u201d he wrote in the book.<\/p>\n

Stamos has since gotten sober<\/a> and moved on with wife Caitlin McHugh<\/strong>, whom he married in 2018. The pair share 6-year-old son Billy.<\/p>\n

While Stamos\u2019 niece Jill learned more about dark chapters in the Full House<\/em> alum\u2019s life from reading his book \u2014 she had a copy sitting next to her while speaking to Us<\/em> \u2014 she said that \u201cone of the most amazing things\u201d about reading the memoir was \u201chearing stories\u201d about her late grandparents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was super close with my grandma growing up. My grandpa actually passed away six weeks after I was born, so it was so cool being able to hear these stories that I\u2019ve never heard before and just kind of experience that as well,\u201d Jill told Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Full House\u00a0alum was previously married to actress\u00a0Rebecca Romijn\u00a0from 1998 to 2005, while McHugh was wed to\u00a0Massimo Lusardi\u00a0from 2011 to 2014. One year after they started dating, Stamos and McHugh\u00a0collaborated again on the 2017 short film\u00a0Ingenue-ish. They\u00a0announced their engagement later [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Jill was eliminated from Claim to Fame<\/em> after she incorrectly guessed that her costar Miguel<\/strong> is related to Antonio Banderas<\/strong>. While her time on the show was brief, she noted that Stamos was \u201cso supportive\u201d of her decision to appear on the reality series.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was actually the first person I called after I got off of the phone finding out a little more information about the show, and I was like, \u2018Have you ever heard of this [show]?\u2019 And he was like, \u2018Yeah, I actually just watched the last season, it\u2019s so funny,\u2019\u201d Jill recalled. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, I\u2019m kind of in the running to do it,\u2019 and he was like, \u2018That is amazing. You\u2019re gonna be incredible.\u2019 He instantly turned into this just, like, protective uncle that was encouraging me and telling me tips and being there for me during the whole process.\u201d<\/p>\n
