The cast of The Deb<\/i> is rallying behind Rebel Wilson<\/strong><\/a> amid a lawsuit against the first-time director.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Pitch Perfect <\/i>actress, 44, was sued for defamation<\/a> last week by the film\u2019s producers after she publicly accused them of engaging in \u201cbad behavior.\u201d In response, they lodged complaints accusing her of being \u201cunprofessional\u201d and a \u201cbully\u201d while taking on her new role behind the camera.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson took to Instagram on Friday, July 12, to address the lawsuit<\/a> and share a photo of herself with the entire cast and crew of the film.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not defamation if it\u2019s the TRUTH,\u201d Wilson wrote in the caption. \u201cLet our cool movie play at Toronto [Film Festival] and stop messing about with a rubbish defamation suit against me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The original Bellas \u2014 made up of Beca (Anna Kendrick), Aubrey (Anna Camp), Chloe (Brittany Snow), Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and more \u2014 cemented their place in viewers\u2019 hearts early on before adding new [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The stars of The Deb<\/i> have since showcased their support for Wilson, with actor Max Ostler<\/strong> telling People<\/em><\/a> in a statement on Wednesday, July 17:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRebel consistently expressed immense gratitude toward all individuals involved in the project. Noteworthy examples of her appreciation include the personalized caps she presented to each cast member as keepsake gifts, as well as the raffle prizes she distributed during one of the filming nights.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ostler stated that the \u201cthoughtful gestures\u201d were unsolicited and \u201cserved to highlight her genuine and compassionate character.\u201d He said Wilson \u201cdemonstrated a genuine commitment to fostering a welcoming atmosphere\u201d and \u201cmade a conscious effort to greet and engage with not only myself but with every individual involved in the project.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Actor Shane Jacobson<\/strong> also defended Wilson, calling her \u201c<\/span>incredibly supportive and collaborative on set not only to myself, but also to those around me during filming and at all other times.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

News of issues surrounding the film broke on July 10 when Wilson alleged in an Instagram video post<\/span><\/a> that producers behind The Deb<\/i> \u2014\u00a0a musical comedy set in her native Australia \u2014\u00a0were sabotaging the film\u2019s opportunity to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as well as threatening not to release it at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

While addressing her followers, Wilson named Amanda Ghost<\/strong>, Gregor Cameron<\/strong> and Vince Holden<\/strong> and said that she had \u201cdiscovered\u201d the producers\u2019 \u201cbad behavior\u201d in October 2023 and reported it afterward. Her allegations included \u201cinappropriate behavior towards the lead actress of the film\u201d and \u201cembezzling funds from the film\u2019s budget.\u201d Wilson claimed the producing team behaved with \u201cabsolute viciousness and retaliatory behavior\u201d toward her for reporting the alleged incidents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson said The Deb<\/i> had been chosen to close the Toronto\u2019s film festival in September, a \u201cmassive\u201d honor, but claimed her \u201cbusiness partners\u201d had sought to block the screening, saying, \u201cNo, the movie can\u2019t premiere.\u201d She added that the setback \u201cis just beyond devastating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t be threatened. I will speak the truth,\u201d Wilson said, adding, \u201cIf the movie doesn\u2019t play in Toronto, it\u2019s because of these absolute f\u2013kwits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, July 12, Ghost, Cameron and Holden filed the defamation suit against Wilson in Los Angeles. In court documents obtained by Us Weekly<\/em> at the time, they alleged she\u2019s a \u201cbully who will disregard the interests of others to promote her own\u201d and that she \u201cbehaved unprofessionally with employees\u201d and \u201crepeatedly made unauthorized and improper disclosures\u201d about the film.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
