Emio, known as Smiling Man in the Japanese version, is not a new horror project but, rather, the latest entry in Nintendo\u2019s Famicom Detective Club<\/em> series<\/a>. In it, you\u2019ll play as \u2014 what else? \u2014 a detective tasked with solving the gruesome murder of a student who was found with a paper bag with a smiling face over his head. Contrary to the rumors that suggested The Medium<\/em> studio Bloober Team was the game\u2019s developer<\/a>, Emio \u2013 The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club <\/em>was actually developed internally at Nintendo, with Metroid<\/em> producer Yoshio Sakamoto leading the project. Nintendo posted a short video<\/a> featuring Sakamoto sharing more details about the game.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Emio \u2013 The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club<\/em> is the first new game in the series in 30 years. In 2021, Nintendo released remakes of the first two Detective Club<\/em> games, The Missing Heir<\/em> and The Girl Who Stands Behind, <\/em>which first debuted in the late \u201980s. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Though Emio<\/em> wasn\u2019t featured during the Nintendo Direct back in June, the game will join Nintendo\u2019s holiday release schedule, launching on August 29th.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
