\u201cToday Lattice is making AI history,\u201d CEO Sarah Franklin\u00a0wrote in a July 9th blog post<\/a>. \u201cWe will be the first to give digital workers official employee records in Lattice<\/em>. Digital workers will be securely onboarded, trained, and assigned goals, performance metrics, appropriate systems access, and even a manager. Just as any person would be.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n On July 12th, after a very predictable backlash, Lattice posted an update saying it \u201cwill not further pursue digital workers in the product.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Here\u2019s a sample of the responses to Lattice\u2019s original announcement:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Franklin\u2019s original post did acknowledge that there are questions about what it means to integrate an AI worker into processes for managing real people. And Franklin has posted comments on LinkedIn to explain Lattice\u2019s thinking about the feature. \u201cI\u2019m not advocating for the personification of AI,\u201d Franklin said in one<\/a>. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n There are many companies exploring the idea of digital workers \u2014 Franklin\u2019s blog post pointed to Cognition AI\u2019s Devin software engineer and Qualified\u2019s Piper AI sales representative. It appears Lattice was trying to respond to these sorts of AI bots, but its attempt backfired, especially among the people who might care about it the most.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
