Members of the Beverly Hills, 90210<\/em><\/a> cast have started to speak out in the wake of former costars Shannen Doherty<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s death.<\/p>\n \u201cShocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,\u201d Jason Priestley<\/strong> wrote via Instagram<\/a> on Sunday, July 14. \u201cShe was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.\u201d<\/p>\n News of Doherty\u2019s death came in the early hours of Sunday. The actress died at age 53<\/a> following a years-long battle with cancer, her publicist Leslie Sloane<\/strong> confirmed to Us Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n Doherty was initially diagnosed<\/a> with stage IV breast cancer in 2015. She publicly announced her diagnosis in 2017, following years of remission. Years later, Doherty revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t want to die,\u201d she told People<\/em> in November 2023, offering the health update. \u201cI\u2019m not done with living. I\u2019m not done with loving. I\u2019m not done with creating. I\u2019m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n Throughout her cancer battle, Doherty\u2019s famous friends and costars have publicly shared their support and the cast of the Fox drama are no exception. Doherty played Brenda Walsh (twin sister to <\/a>Priestly\u2019s Brandon) for four seasons of the iconic series. Her onscreen love interest Luke Perry<\/strong> died in 2019<\/a> after suffering a stroke at 52.<\/p>\n
