After three decades of futility, the Florida Panthers won their first-ever Stanley Cup<\/a> last month \u2013 and they celebrated accordingly.<\/p>\n

Panthers\u2019 left winger Carter Verhaeghe<\/strong> shared that the team feted their 2-1 Game 7 win<\/a> over the Edmonton Oilers on June 24 until the wee hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best time we had, I think, was in the locker room after. I think we stayed until 5 a.m.,\u201d Verhaeghe exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on the ESPYs red carpet in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 11. \u201cYou couldn\u2019t see in the room [because] it was so cloudy from all the cigars. It was awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

Verhaeghe said the celebration wasn\u2019t just limited to players and coaches.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen the temperatures begin to cool, there is one sport that celebrity fans can\u2019t get enough of: hockey! Carrie Underwood and Bachelor Nation\u2019s Emily Ferguson have a special connection to the sport because their significant others are professional hockey players. Underwood rooted for her husband, Mike Fisher, throughout his career, which began in 1999. \u201cCaptain [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cEveryone was in there. Management, too. We were dumping the Cup on them full of beer,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a great celebration. There\u2019s some things I can\u2019t mention, though.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t say the long-suffering franchise didn\u2019t deserve to let loose. The Panthers made it to the NHL\u2019s Championship series just three years after their founding but were trounced by the Colorado Avalanche in a four-game sweep. What followed was more than 20 years in the wilderness, with the team failing to win another postseason series until 2022.<\/p>\n

The team reached their first Stanley Cup Finals since \u201896 last season, only to fall to the relative newcomers of the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Their second trip to the Finals in as many seasons was no sure thing, either. The Panthers very nearly suffered a historic collapse, allowing the Oilers to dig their way out of a 3-0 before winning a nailbiter in Game 7.<\/p>\n

Given all that tension, it\u2019s not surprising that Verhaeghe is letting himself relax a little in the offseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll relax for a couple weeks. We played so many games the last couple years. I\u2019ve been calming down and letting the body reset,\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cAfter about a week of celebrating, the body isn\u2019t holding up as well anymore. So you want to get back in the gym.\u201d<\/p>\n

Verhaeghe, who is Canadian, said that he\u2019s been surprised by the dedication of fans so far south.<\/p>\n
