Sarah Ferguson<\/a>, Duchess of York has shared the poignant final message she received from the late Queen Elizabeth.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The monarch died at her Balmoral estate in Scotland in September 2022 at the age of 96 and Sarah has now revealed the Queen\u2019s final words to her were a \u201cgift\u201d as she urged her former daughter-in-law to \u201cbe yourself\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sarah told Platinum magazine: \u201cThe last thing the late Queen said to me was \u2018be yourself\u2019. That was the best gift, apart from the corgis, that she gave me.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe also said: \u2018I cared for you, Sarah, and I love you and that you\u2019re good enough. Just be it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sarah explained the Queen\u2019s kind words meant a lot to her because she always felt as if she was negatively compared to her late former sister-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cWhen you\u2019re permanently compared to Diana or always in the newspapers seen to be doing something wrong, called \u2018Bad Fergie\u2019, \u2018Furious Fergie\u2019, \u2018Fat and frumpy Fergie\u2019, \u2018Frolicking Fergie\u2019, you eventually believe it. I\u2019m much better now, but you still have to work through things. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cAt 64 I finally feel free to be myself. Rather than trying to please all of the people all of the time, I can accept that isn\u2019t possible and get on with living my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAfter the Queen died, Sarah adopted the late monarch\u2019s remaining two corgis – Sandy and Muick – and on the first anniversary of her death the duchess shared a sweet message calling her a \u201csecond mother\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nIn a post on Instagram, she wrote: \u201cYou were a wonderful friend, a mentor, a second mother to me and grandmother to my daughters who share so much of your courage and heart.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cYou will always be loved and missed by our family and our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
