{"id":110813,"date":"2024-07-11T04:23:16","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T04:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/11\/josh-klinghoffer-sued-for-wrongful-death-after-tragic-accident\/"},"modified":"2024-07-11T04:23:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T04:23:16","slug":"josh-klinghoffer-sued-for-wrongful-death-after-tragic-accident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/11\/josh-klinghoffer-sued-for-wrongful-death-after-tragic-accident\/","title":{"rendered":"Josh Klinghoffer Sued for Wrongful Death After Tragic Accident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption \">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:149.8%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">Tara Ziemba<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pearl Jam guitarist<strong> Josh Klinghoffer<\/strong> has been sued for wrongful death after allegedly striking and killing a pedestrian with his car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The family of <strong>Israel Sanchez<\/strong>, 47, filed a lawsuit against Klinghoffer, 44, for his alleged involvement in a traffic collision that fatally injured Sanchez as he crossed the street in Alhambra, California, on March 18, <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/pearl-jam-guitarist-josh-klinghoffer-sued-for-wrongful-death-8676319\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\"><i>Entertainment Weekly<\/i><\/span><\/a><i> <\/i>reported on Wednesday, July 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sanchez sustained blunt-force trauma to his head and died hours afterward, according to the outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt was a tragic accident,\u201d Klinghoffer\u2019s attorney, <strong>Andrew Brettler<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2024\/07\/10\/red-hot-chili-peppers-josh-klinghoffer-sued-wrongful-death-accused-running-over-killing-pedestrian-walking-crosswalk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">told TMZ<\/span><\/a> in a statement Wednesday. \u201cAfter Josh struck this pedestrian in the intersection, he immediately pulled over, stopped the car, called 911 and waited until police and the ambulance arrived. Obviously, he\u2019s cooperating with the police throughout the traffic investigation. This was purely a tragic accident.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Brettler did not immediately respond to <i>Us Weekly<\/i>\u2019s request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">Prosecutors allege that Klinghoffer was behind the wheel and using a smartphone before driving into Sanchez.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Nick Rowley<\/strong>, a lawyer for the prosecution, issued a statement declaring that Klinghoffer \u201cshould be arrested and prosecuted for homicide. We have a video of him on his cell phone at the time he hit and killed Israel Sanchez, a loving father, in a crosswalk.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Rowley continued, \u201cIsrael Sanchez was on his way to the grocery store to make soup for his family and never came home. He did everything right, looking for oncoming traffic and abiding by pedestrian signage, but tragically Mr. Klinghoffer, in a rush and on his phone, hit him fatally from behind with a large SUV. The loss and grief that the Sanchez family now faces is immense. We will not stop until there is accountability and justice for Mr. Sanchez and his family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cMy dad was known for being a great chef, the most talented of his family, the greatest grandpa always full of love and joy,\u201d plaintiff Ashley Sanchez stated via <i>Entertainment Weekly<\/i>. \u201cHis smile was so infectious. His life was taken by a careless act of a person who didn\u2019t bother to look where he was driving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Klinghoffer is currently touring with Pearl Jam.
