\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Trey Cunningham<\/strong><\/a> is coming out.<\/p>\n The 25-year-old athlete, who competed in last month\u2019s U.S. Olympic Trials, has come out publicly as gay.<\/p>\n In an interview with The New York Times<\/a><\/em>, he said coming out to his family in private five years ago was the \u201cscariest thing I\u2019ve ever done.\u201d<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n His reason for coming out publicly came from a track training technique he uses. <\/p>\n \u201cWe say our goals out loud. If there\u2019s something we want to achieve, we say it. Putting something in words makes it real,\u201d the Florida State University alum said.<\/p>\n He added that he didn\u2019t \u201cexplore the idea\u201d of being gay until college, considering he had grown up in a conservative, rural part of Alabama, adding that his hometown of Winfield was \u201cthe sort of place where you did not want to be the gay kid at school.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked if he thought coming out publicly would change anything, he told Us Weekly<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m just Trey<\/strong>, and apparently it\u2019s a special thing that I like to kiss guys.\u201d<\/p>\n Several stars also just came out recently.<\/a><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
