Zoe Kravitz<\/strong><\/a> has revealed why the original title of her directorial debut required a rethink.<\/p>\n

For years, Kravitz, 35, worked on Blink Twice<\/em> under the original title P\u2014y Island<\/em>, however she changed the upcoming film\u2019s<\/a> title after learning that \u201cwomen were offended\u201d by the word \u2019p\u2014y.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was made very clear to me that \u2018p\u2014y\u2019 is a word that we, our society, are not ready to embrace yet,\u201d she told Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Tuesday, July 9. \u201cThere were a lot of roadblocks along the way, whether it be the MPAA not wanting to put it on a poster, or a billboard, or a kiosk; movie theaters not wanting to put it on a ticket.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Kravitz, who is engaged<\/a> to Channing Tatum<\/strong>, one of the film\u2019s stars, was initially reluctant to change the film\u2019s title, she eventually realized her intended audience would ultimately disapprove.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tChanning Tatum and Zo\u00eb Kravitz took their working relationship to the next level when they started dating. Us Weekly confirmed in August 2021 that the pair had started dating, shortly after Kravitz\u2019s divorce from Karl Glusman was finalized, after meeting on the set of her directorial debut, Blink Twice (originally titled Pussy Island). \u201c[He was [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cInterestingly enough, after researching it, women were offended by the word, and women seeing the title were saying, \u2018I don\u2019t want to see that movie,\u2019 which is part of the reason I wanted to try and use the word, which is trying to reclaim the word, and not make it something that we\u2019re so uncomfortable using,\u201d Kravitz said. \u201cBut we\u2019re not there yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Big Little Lies<\/em><\/a> star added that she felt a \u201cresponsibility\u201d to push her personal values aside as she transitioned from being in front of the camera to behind it. \u201cI care about people seeing the film, and I care about how it makes people feel,\u201d Kravitz said.<\/p>\n

Blink Twice<\/em>, which hits theaters on August 23, was written in 2017 by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum<\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0and stars Naomi Ackie<\/strong> as Frida, a cocktail waitress invited to a seemingly nonstop island party by a billionaire tech mogul, played by Tatum, 43.<\/p>\n

Frida quickly learns that not everything is as it seems after her best friend Jess, played by Alia Shawkat<\/strong>, disappears from the island and nobody can recall even meeting her.<\/p>\n
