Joan Benedict Steiger has died. The longtime actress died at\u00a0Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, on June 24, a family spokesperson confirmed to\u00a0<\/span>multiple<\/a> <\/span>outlets<\/a>. Benedict, who died due to complications from a stroke, was 96.<\/span><\/p>\n The Brooklyn-born actress initially studied dance before changing her focus to acting.\u00a0Benedict began her TV career in the ’50s, appearing on\u00a0<\/span>Candid Camera<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>The Steve Allen Show<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Stints on\u00a0<\/span>The Incredible Hulk\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and<\/span>\u00a0Fantasy Island\u00a0<\/span><\/em>followed, as did roles in movies such as\u00a0<\/span>The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington<\/span><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Perfect Victims<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Benedict also had a role on\u00a0<\/span>Days of Our Lives\u00a0<\/span><\/em>and recurred on\u00a0<\/span>General Hospital\u00a0<\/span><\/em>as Edith Fairchild. Her final onscreen appearance came in the 2017 film\u00a0<\/span>Opus of an Angel<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Benedict was married to\u00a0John Myhers for 30 years. After Myhers’ death in 1992, she reconnected with actor\u00a0Rod Steiger, whom she’d first met as a teenager, and married in 2000.
