All American: Homecoming\u2019s<\/em> season 3 premiere saw Simone finally make a choice between Damon and Lando. While fans might have differing opinions on how the love triangle played out, star Geffri Maya<\/strong> and showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll<\/strong> are in agreement: things happened exactly how they needed to.<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers ahead of Season 3, episode 1 of <\/strong><\/em>All American: Homecoming<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe [felt like] we were doing [Simone and Damon\u2019s] relationship a disservice if she did not give it a shot,\u201d Carroll exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> ahead of the Monday, July 8, episode. \u201cAnd quite frankly, had things not played out the way it played out, and if baseball hadn\u2019t been taken away and Damon been given this shot abroad, it would\u2019ve likely played out for longer. Not necessarily meaning that he\u2019s her end game and her soulmate, but more meaning that it was something that she needed to experience in order to figure that out.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Carroll \u2014 who is the showrunner of both Homecoming<\/em> and the flagship All American<\/em><\/a> \u2014 there was \u201cnever any other choice\u201d than for Simone (Geffri Maya<\/strong>) to explore a romance with Damon (Peyton Alex Smith<\/strong>) and \u201cdetermine for herself is this end game [or] just an important chapter of [her] life that [she] had to go through?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs networks make decisions about their programming, Us Weekly will continue to track what has been renewed and which TV shows have been canceled. Slow Horses was the first show to score a renewal in 2024. In early January, Apple TV+ picked up the series for a fifth season, which will be based on Mick [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAnd there\u2019s no way to answer that question until you go through it,\u201d Carroll added.<\/p>\n

After the season 2 finale left fans with a major cliffhanger, the Monday, July 8, premiere revealed that Simone\u2019s long standing love triangle came to an end when she chose to be with Damon over newcomer Lando (Martin Bobb-Semple<\/strong>). Simone and Damon\u2019s story had been building since the show\u2019s backdoor pilot in 2021 when they met and had immediate sparks, but bad timing continued to come between them.<\/p>\n

Although season 3 finally saw them get together, their happiness is short-lived. A time jump at the end of the episode reveals Bringston University has done away with the program, leaving Damon with no choice but to move to the Dominican Republic to play ball. The couple decide that long distance won\u2019t work for them, and they call it quits.<\/p>\n

Despite their short love affair, Carroll stands by giving \u201cDimone\u201d a try. She did, however, add that the writer\u2019s room is still \u201csplit into camps in terms of Team Damon [or] Team Lando\u201d \u2014 and that the question of \u201cwhy\u201d Simone ultimately chose the way she did will be answered in \u201cfuture episodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Maya, who\u2019s portrayed Simone since season 2 of All American<\/em>, the actress agreed that Dimone\u2019s history was too great to ignore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was so much left unsaid [between them],\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cI believe that Simone just followed her heart and trusted her gut with the decision. She just wants to honor the fact that they have always had something. And I think that she felt she deserves to experience that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maya added that Simone is \u201cvery intelligent\u201d and \u201csmart\u201d \u2014 albeit \u201chardheaded\u201d at times \u2014 and knows she had nothing but \u201cgood intentions\u201d regardless of what happens in the down the line.<\/p>\n

While Simone and Damon had their moment in the premiere, how Lando feels about not being chosen is an entirely different complication that Carroll said will play out throughout the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cLando has very strong feelings about [Simone\u2019s] pick,\u201d Carroll told Us<\/em>, laughing. \u201c[We will] quickly understand where he stands on the choice she made and her needing to live with the choice she made. And Martin [Bobb-Semple] has just been phenomenal this season in all the levels he has brought to Lando\u2019s character and navigating friendships and relationships and where is that boundary and where is that line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carroll explained that Lando will have to figure out his new dynamic with Simone for his \u201cown mental health and peace\u201d in order to \u201cprotect himself\u201d from being hurt further.\u00a0 Simone, meanwhile, will also be figuring out the twsome\u2019s new boundaries, \u201cbecause she misses someone who had legitimately become one of her best friends.\u201d<\/p>\n
