The 50-year-old \u2018Hereditary\u2019 actress \u2013 who has daughter Sage, 15, and son Arlo, 11, with her 44-year-old musician ex-husband Dave Galafassi \u2013 says she would \u201clove\u201d to exercise outside at 2am but won\u2019t as you \u201chave to really think twice\u201d as a woman.<\/p>\n
She told Glamour magazine in an interview to promote her new series \u2018The Power\u2019, about girls developing the terrifying killer power to emit electricity: \u201cWe sadly do have to f****** think about that. We always have had to do that. \u201cI walk everywhere, all the time, I love it. It\u2019s my favourite thing. It clears my head. I feel good in my body.<\/p>\n
\u201cI get to see the world up close and notice things that you don\u2019t see when you\u2019re moving faster.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would love to be able to go walking at 2am if I\u2019m jet-lagged and can\u2019t sleep, or if I\u2019m up really early and want to go out before the light.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut you have to really think twice as a woman.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\u2018The Power\u2019 sees a society develop in which women are the dominant sex, and Toni \u2013 who plays mayor of Seattle and mum-of-three Margot Cleary-Lopez on the Amazon Prime show \u2013 said the plot is a \u201cmetaphor for the inherent power we all have\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cIt’s just that, historically and traditionally, boys and men have been encouraged to develop that power and nurture it. Girls and women haven\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nToni also said about how the world has changed in the way women are viewed and treated: \u201cI think people are very aware of what they can’t do, that certain behaviours are not acceptable!<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut different types of stories and opportunities have definitely opened up for women in the industry.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe\u2019re not just standing next to the guy for decoration, to look pretty, as an appendage of some kind, or as someone that needs saving.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThank God that\u2019s over. That will never happen again. It\u2019s been incredible really. There are some older films \u2013 don\u2019t ask me which \u2013 that I watch with my kids, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Jesus Christ, that would not be made now.\u2019 And it\u2019s very recent. These changes are recent.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
