With a title like The Man with 1000 Kids<\/em>, it\u2019s no wonder that the Netflix docuseries about prolific sperm donor Jonathan Jacob Meijer<\/strong> is climbing the streamer\u2019s charts<\/a> just a day after its release<\/a>. That might come as good news to the numerous women interviewed in the series, several who say Meijer deceived them about the number of children he\u2019s helped produce. But speaking with the media, the 42-year-old Dutch YouTuber<\/a> says he\u2019s disappointed in the show, and says it misrepresented his goals as a donor to scores of families.<\/p>\n \u201cThey deliberately called [the documentary] The Man With 1000 Kids<\/em>, when it should be \u2018the sperm donor who helped families conceive with 550 children\u2019,\u201d Meijer told BBC Radio 4\u2019s<\/a> Woman\u2019s Hour. \u201cSo already from the start, they are deliberately deceiving and misleading.\u201d<\/p>\n In a New York Times<\/em> report from 2021<\/a>, Jonathan Jacob Meijer provided an even lower number. \u201cI have approximately 250 children,\u201d he said then. \u201cAssumptions of 1,000 are ridiculous. I am disappointed by the obsession with the numbers. I became a donor not for any numbers but out of love to help parents with realizing their dream. I cannot understand how anyone can only focus on numbers and see my donor children as a number.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Meijer tells the Independent<\/em><\/a> that he stopped donating sperm in 2019, so it\u2019s unclear where those additional 300 kids came from. In that<\/em> interview, he says the number of children he\u2019s fathered \u201cis closer to 600.\u201d (It\u2019s that vagueness, perhaps, that explains the \u201cfocus on numbers\u201d that Meijer finds so distressing.)<\/p>\n
