Ever since, on everything I watch, there is motion smoothing \u2014 a TV and film purists\u2019 deepest nightmare. There is no way to turn it off.<\/p>\n<p id=\"8VWafb\">In the updated OS, Roku added a feature called <em>Roku Smart Picture,<\/em> which, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/support.roku.com\/article\/228844467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release notes<\/a>, \u201cautomatically improves picture quality dynamically as users stream.\u201d While Roku doesn\u2019t explicitly mention motion smoothing, or what Roku calls \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/support.roku.com\/article\/115007128487\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">action smoothing<\/a>,\u201d the update has made it so that I and many <a href=\"https:\/\/community.roku.com\/t5\/Discussions\/Motion-Smoothing-out-of-nowhere\/td-p\/974654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">others<\/a> with Roku TVs <em>see<\/em> motion smoothing, regardless of whether the picture setting is <em>Roku Smart Picture<\/em> or not. My TV didn\u2019t even support motion smoothing before this.
