There\u2019s no such thing as a dumb idea, but a Dumb and Dumber<\/em> idea is another story. That\u2019s what Travis Kelce<\/strong><\/a> learned when he suggested to girlfriend Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> that he sneak onstage during her worldwide Eras Tour for a cameo.<\/p>\n \u201cI initially mentioned it to Tay,\u201d Travis told Jason Kelce<\/strong>, his brother and co-host<\/a>, on the latest episode of their New Heights<\/em> podcast<\/a>, published Wednesday. \u201cI was like, \u2018How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989<\/em> era?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The idea, of course, evolved into a tuxedoed and top-hatted Travis scooping Swift up off the stage floor<\/a> after her performance of \u201cThe Smallest Man Who Ever Lived\u201d and participating in the pantomimed pre-song performance for \u201cI Can Do It With a Broken Heart\u201d on June 23 at Swift\u2019s third London show. The onstage cameo is a first both for Travis specifically, and for, well, any of Swift\u2019s love interests. As the Swift of yesteryear might say, please welcome to the stage\u2026my boyfriend!<\/p>\n On the podcast, Travis said that Swift asked if he would \u201cseriously be up for doing something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI was just like, \u2018What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me? I\u2019ve seen the show enough\u2014might as well put me to work here,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in.\u201d<\/p>\n Riding a bike, as it turns out, was not the perfect part, \u201cin case I ran into somebody else or hit one of the dancers or anything,\u201d Travis said. \u201cIt was the safest option.\u201d<\/p>\n Instead, he appeared beside \u201ctrue showman\u201d Swift in a sequence that can be read as symbolically meaningful, while less of a physical liability for both the dancers and Travis, who presumably also should not be risking injury ahead of his next season as a professional football player. Listen, everyone needs a side hustle these days, and the NFL is his.<\/p>\n Travis called it an \u201chonor\u201d and \u201can absolute blast\u201d to perform with Swift, not to mention the crowd\u2019s explosive reaction to his cameo.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen everyone found out that it was me\u2014because it took a second for everyone to figure it out\u2014that moment was pretty jarring,\u201d he said. \u201cI was just like, \u2018Oh shit.\u2019 And you don\u2019t realize how big that damn stage is. It is easily as big as a football stadium \u2026 it’s way bigger than I could have ever imagined.\u201d<\/p>\n That’s not to say that he wasn’t nervous, though he noted that \u201cyou can do no wrong with Taylor on stage, she’s absolutely, she’s the best at doing it.\u201d Travis’s internal monologue, however, warned him otherwise.<\/p>\n \u201cThe one thing I told myself is do not drop the baby,\u201d he said. \u201cDo not drop this. Do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch. The golden rule was do not drop Taylor, get her to the couch safely.\u201d<\/p>\n And, on-brand for a guy who has been immortalized in song for his love of Grand Theft Auto<\/em> and American Pie<\/em>, Travis revealed that he took inspiration from another key part of \u201890s canon for his performance: Dumb and Dumber<\/em>. He tried to channel Jim Carrey<\/strong>\u2019s tap dance from the movie<\/a>, which receives as rapturous a reception in the film from Jeff Daniels<\/strong> as Travis did from the London audience. All Travis is missing is the orange tux.<\/p>\n \u201cI always wanted to pull out this move, but I never knew, like, when I should pull it out where it made sense,\u201d Travis said of the energetic choreography. \u201cThat\u2019s one of my favorite moves of all time!\u201d<\/p>\n He called it \u201cthe perfect time for me to go up there, just be a ham and have some fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
