They may not have been the fan favorite pairing on Hart of Dixie\u00a0<\/em> \u2014 but Rachel Bilson<\/strong><\/a> agrees that Zoe and George deserved their fair chance at romance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say they did not really get their shot and it, they were supposed to!\u201d Bilson, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> while promoting her partnership with 21Seeds. \u201cWade came and swooped in, and I do feel like they could have had a little bit more time [with Zoe and George]. But it all worked out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bilson starred on The CW dramedy, which ran from 2011 to 2015, for four seasons. The show followed Bilson\u2019s Zoe as she moved from New York City to the small town of Bluebell, Alabama, to work as a family doctor for a year after she\u2019s offered a job by a stranger. When she arrives, she discovers that the man is actually her biological father who has died and left her his half of the practice in his will.<\/p>\n

In addition to fighting to keep her father\u2019s half of the practice intact by securing 50 percent of the clients, adjusting to small town life and figuring out her professional future, Zoe also finds herself in a seasons-long love triangle with the town lawyer, George (Scott Porter<\/strong>) and local bartender Wade (Wilson Bethel<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tHart of Dixie won over audiences with its love triangles, heartwarming friendships and southern charm. Rachel Bilson led the cast of the CW series from September 2011 to March 2015, portraying lovable New York doctor turned Alabama resident Zoe Hart. Wilson Bethel (Wade Kinsella) and Scott Porter (George Tucker) played her love interests, while Cress [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although \u2014 spoiler alert \u2014 George calls off his wedding to Lemon (Jaime King<\/strong>) for Zoe at the end of season 1, she ultimately chooses to hold off on their romance and date Wade, instead. And although Zoe continuously planned to circle back around to George eventually, the twosome actually never dated throughout the show\u2019s run.<\/p>\n

When speaking to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> in 2011, HOD<\/em> showrunner Leila Gerstein<\/strong> \u2014 who got her big break writing for fellow CW series Gossip Girl<\/em> <\/a>\u2014 said that she likes to have her \u201cmind changed\u201d when it comes to writing romantic prospects for her characters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to think, \u2018Oh, Zoe and George should really be together,\u2019 this week and next week, \u2018Wait a minute, Wade is really special, maybe she should be with Wade. He could help her really loosen up,\u2019\u201d Gerstein said at the time. \u201cI like to change expectations, I think that\u2019s fun for an audience. I, as a viewer, like to go on that ride. I like when people are feeling like \u2018no, no, no\u2019 and arguing with each other. Gossip Girl<\/em> and The O.C.<\/em><\/a>\u00a0did a great job [with that].\u201d<\/p>\n

Bilson, of course, also starred on The O.C.<\/em> as Summer Roberts, where her character found herself caught in multiple love triangles over the years. The most prominent was between longtime love Seth (Adam Brody<\/strong>, her real-life boyfriend at the time) and Zach (Michael Cassidy<\/strong>), in the third season. While Summer ultimately followed her heart to Seth, she told Us<\/em> that Zoe would probably have done something different: she would have dated \u201cboth.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, Bilson thinks that if the roles were reversed \u2014 and Summer got thrown into quaint Bluebell \u2014 she, too, would have a hard time choosing between rebel Wade and good guy George. But, why would she need to?<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking at how she wound up with Seth, she could really go either way. Because she [dated] both Zach and Seth,\u201d Bilson said. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s a modern time. I feel like that would be acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Zoe and George never really got their shot, it might be too soon for a Hart of Dixie<\/em> reboot to explore what could have been. The O.C.,<\/em> however, is a show fans have been begging to see back on their screens for years. While Bilson understands the desire to head back to Newport, she also thinks it can be \u201chard to touch something that was so great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou watch it and you\u2019re like, \u2018Oh my God, it was, like, a magical time.\u2019 It was an amazing thing and people are still discovering it or rediscovering it,\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cSo it\u2019s like, how do you touch something like that and go back? But then talking to [the cast and crew], being around everybody, it\u2019s like, \u2018But we had such a great time together, how cool would it be to be able to do it again?\u2019 So I go back and forth. Do you touch it? Do you leave it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Bilson said that if creators Josh Schwartz<\/strong> and Stephanie Savage<\/strong> were involved, she\u2019d be \u201cup for anything\u201d \u2014 including a revival. For now, fans can get a taste of Summer and The O.C.<\/em> through Bilson\u2019s 21Seeds partnership, where she, Schwartz and Savage revisit Summer Roberts in 2024 through iconic scenes<\/a> from back then.<\/p>\n

The love triangle has been a frequent plot point in TV and film for years, but there is maybe no more iconic angsty trio than the one between Dawson (James Van [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI always say I would do anything with Josh and Steph, like if they asked me. So when Josh, you know, approached me with this, I was like, are you kidding? Absolutely,\u201d she gushed. \u201cAnd the timing of it is so amazing because it is 21 years [since The. O.C.<\/em> premiered] and it\u2019s 21 seeds. It could not come at [a] better time.\u201d<\/p>\n
