In its 22 seasons on air, American Idol<\/em><\/a> has seen many judges come and go, the latest being Katy Perry<\/strong><\/a>, who announced her departure<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em> in February 2024.<\/p>\n

Perry, who judged seven seasons of the iconic series, told Kimmel she wanted to \u201cgo and see the world and maybe bring new music.\u201d The singer has judged alongside Luke Bryan<\/strong><\/a> and Lionel Richie<\/strong><\/a> since the show was rebooted on ABC 2018.<\/p>\n

Bryan was not shocked by Perry\u2019s announcement, claiming<\/a> he \u201chad heard whispers that she was thinking about it.\u201d While sad to see her go, Bryan told Taste of Country<\/em> that it\u2019s \u201cbeen a good run\u201d judging with Perry, adding that they\u2019ve \u201cdeveloped a great friendship.\u201d Richie, meanwhile, encouraged the \u201cRoar\u201d singer to \u201ctake some time and actually be an artist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since Perry\u2019s departure, Idol fans have been speculating about which artist might replace her at the judges\u2019 table. Even Bryan has joined in on the fun, adding a few names<\/a> to the list in a July 2024 Billboard<\/em> interview.<\/p>\n

Bryan told Billboard<\/em> that Pink has \u201cbeen in the talks\u201d to take over Perry\u2019s seat. Despite Bryan\u2019s claims, however, Pink seemed hesitant when asked by Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> how she would feel about taking over.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like hurting people\u2019s feelings,\u201d said Pink. \u201cI like my day job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miley Cyrus<\/h3>\n

In the same Billboard<\/em> interview, Bryan claimed Cyrus has \u201cbeen in the talks\u201d for the position. The \u201cWrecking Ball\u201d singer has experience as a judge, having coached seasons 11 and 13 of The Voice<\/em> and served as a mentor during season 9.<\/p>\n

LeAnn Rimes<\/h3>\n

During a June 2024 appearance on WWHL<\/em>, Idol<\/em> season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert<\/strong> shared his thoughts on who might be the best fit for the job. Having worked with her recently on The Voice<\/em> Australia, Lambert claimed<\/a> Rimes would be \u201cgreat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s so lovely, so down to earth \u2014 very spiritual and deep, but great sense of humor,\u201d he said. \u201cI think she\u2019d be good on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n
