Simone Biles<\/strong><\/a> is headed to the 2024 Paris Olympics<\/a> after securing her spot on the U.S. gymnastics team.<\/p>\n

The athlete, 27, competed in the U.S. Olympic team trials on Sunday, June 30, posting a two-day, all-around total of 117.225 to secure the single automatic spot on the five-woman team. The Paris Games will be Biles\u2019 third Olympics.<\/p>\n

Biles previously won four gold medals and one bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Despite ultimately earning a silver and a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, she was forced to withdraw from multiple events<\/a> after suffering from the \u201ctwisties,\u201d<\/a> which caused her to become disoriented in the air during the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the back [gym], we already knew my gymnastics was kind of janky,\u201d Biles recalled during an April appearance on the \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cIn training, I was having the twisties already, but I\u2019m trying to push past that. I would literally tell the team \u2026 \u2018I\u2019m fighting demons. I\u2019m fighting demons right now, but I\u2019m going to do it for you guys.\u2019 I literally felt like I was fighting my body and my mind to do these tricks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSimone Biles is small in stature \u2014 just 4-foot-8 \u2014 but her reputation looms large. The Texas native started taking gymnastics classes at age 6 and and earned an invite to the junior national team camp by 14. She had several world championship gold medals before she made her Olympics debut in Rio de Janeiro [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Biles took a two-year break from competing after the Tokyo Olympics, but she returned to training in September 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I could sit here and tell you it was glorious,\u201d she told Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a> in her February cover story. \u201cWhen I took a break after 2016, I had the time of my life. I was doing anything and everything. But after 2020, it was kind of depressing until I started therapy and got help. I felt like a failure. Even though I was empowering so many people and speaking out about mental health, every time I talked about my experience in Tokyo \u2014 because it obviously didn\u2019t go the way that I had planned \u2014 it stung a little bit. But all in all, it was the best decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of her potential to redeem herself at the 2024 Olympics, she insisted at the time, \u201cIf I don\u2019t make it to Paris, it won\u2019t absolutely crush me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simone Biles shocked the world when she bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics \u2014 but that wasn\u2019t the first time she\u2019d advocated for her mental health. In July 2021, the four-time Olympic gold medalist fell while trying to land a vault in the team final in Japan and [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Biles returned to competitive gymnastics<\/a> in August 2023. \u201cIt felt really good [getting back out there], especially after everything that happened over the past year,\u201d she told NBC Sports at the time. \u201cSo, everyone that was cheering, made posters in the crowd and all of that, it made my heart melt that they still believe in me. I got back out here and did what I was training [to do], so I\u2019m very happy with the result.\u201d<\/p>\n
