He was 80.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a data-offer-url=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C8xtnPPyeAH\/\" class=\"external-link\" data-event-click=\"{&quot;element&quot;:&quot;ExternalLink&quot;,&quot;outgoingURL&quot;:&quot;https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C8xtnPPyeAH\/&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C8xtnPPyeAH\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Friday night Instagram post<\/a> by Mull, her father \u201cpassed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness. He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials,&#8221; she continued, noting that \u201cHe would find that joke funny. He was never not funny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cMy dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and\u2014the sign of a truly exceptional person\u2014by many, many dogs. in the 1970s, first as ill-fated domestic abuser Garth Gimble on the soap opera satire <em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.vanityfair.com\/article\/2000\/6\/forever-fernwood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman<\/a>.<\/em> In spin-off <em>Fernwood 2-Night<\/em>, which similarly targeted talk shows, he played Barth Gimble, Garth&#8217;s twin.<\/p>\n<figure
