Eddie Murphy<\/strong><\/a> doesn\u2019t have fond memories of working on Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a>, and he still remembers when fellow cast member David Spade<\/strong><\/a> spewed a hateful joke about him on the air \u2014 several years after his exit.<\/p>\n

The Coming to America<\/em><\/a> star, 63, opened up on the Saturday, June 29 episode of The New York Times Magazine\u2019s<\/a> <\/em>\u201cThe Interview\u201d podcast, where he recalled one \u201cracist\u201d jab that Spade, 59, said during his \u201cHollywood Minute\u201d sketch in 1995.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook children, it\u2019s a falling star. Make a wish,\u201d Spade had chuckled next to a photo of Murphy during the skit. The comment came after Murphy and Angela Bassett<\/strong> starred in director Wes Craven<\/strong>\u2019s horror-comedy Vampire in Brooklyn<\/em>, which bombed at the box office (though it is now often labeled a cult classic).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like: \u2018Yo, it\u2019s in-house! I\u2019m one of the family, and you\u2019re f\u2013king with me like that?\u2019 It hurt my feelings like that,\u201d Murphy noted to The New York Times<\/em> about the incident.<\/p>\n

The Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F<\/em> <\/a>star appeared on the NBC comedy series from 1980 to 1984 while Spade starred on SNL from 1990 until 1996.<\/p>\n

Murphy continued, \u201cThis is Saturday Night Live<\/em>. I\u2019m the biggest thing that ever came off that show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe show would have been off the air if I didn\u2019t go back on the show, and now you got somebody from the cast making a crack about my career? And I know that he can\u2019t just say that,\u201d he explained to the publication.<\/p>\n

\u201cA joke has to go through these channels. So the producers thought it was OK to say that. And all the people that have been on that show, you\u2019ve never heard nobody make no joke about anybody\u2019s career,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost people that get off that show, they don\u2019t go on and have these amazing careers. It was personal. It was like, \u2018Yo, how could you do that?\u2019 My career? Really? A joke about my career? So I thought that was a cheap shot. And it was kind of, I thought \u2014 I felt it was racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

The You People<\/em> actor returned to the SNL<\/em> stage at Studio 8H to guest host in 2019<\/a>, and he made an appearance at the show\u2019s 40th anniversary celebration in 2015.<\/p>\n
