The musical icon, 77, confirmed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/elton-john-and-david-furnish-on-being-fans-of-chappell-roan-and-if-elton-will-ever-tour-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with <em>Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a>, published Thursday, that he does not plan to tour ever again. His final show was last July, in Stockholm, Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last show in Stockholm on the farewell tour after Glastonbury, I got in the car and went, \u2018Yes! yes!\u2019 We went out on the biggest high, just the way I wanted to, and there&#8217;s no going back [after] that,\u201d John said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">John\u2019s husband, <strong>David Furnish<\/strong>, elaborated on John\u2019s decision to stop touring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cWe&#8217;ve got our sons, you know, they&#8217;re getting into their teenage years now,\u201d he said. The couple share <strong>Zachary<\/strong>, 13, and <strong>Elijah<\/strong>, 11. \u201cWe don&#8217;t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It&#8217;s sort of a key decade, I think, in a child&#8217;s life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">Besides, John has been at it for decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cHe&#8217;s been doing it for 60 years,\u201d Furnish added. \u201cSo it&#8217;s nice to have that time to spend at home with family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">At that final Stockholm show, John thanked the gathered crowd for their decades of support and shared that he was done touring, but not necessarily done performing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cI\u2019ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief,\u201d he said. \u201cFifty-two years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I to play music? But you know, I wouldn\u2019t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn\u2019t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes, but more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows. You know how much I love to play live. It\u2019s been my lifeblood to play for you guys. You\u2019ve been absolutely magnificent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cI will never be touring again, but I may do something in the future\u2014 a one-off thing\u2014but that\u2019s miles away,\u201d he continued. \u201cI want to appreciate my family, my sons, my husband, everything. I\u2019ve earned it. And I don\u2019t regret it tonight. I want to thank the band, the crew, everybody. I will miss you guys so much, but I\u2019ll see you much sooner than you think. I love you guys!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">The \u201cRocket Man\u201d singer has won five Grammys and been nominated 35 times in his career, and after an Emmys win in January for his <em>Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium<\/em> special, chronicling his final November 2022 U.S. concert, became the 19th person to ever clinch the coveted EGOT title as a winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award. He was also knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth in 1998, and provided the soundtrack for a world grieving Princess Diana\u2019s 1997 death with his re-recording of \u201cCandle in the Wind,\u201d with slightly retooled lyrics paying tribute to his friend. In 2022, John was invited to perform at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/live\/queen-elizabeth-platinum-jubilee-live-blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">He still has relationships with the royal family now as well: Ahead of John\u2019s final Dodger Stadium date, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/2022\/11\/prince-harry-meghan-markle-surprise-elton-john-video-friend-to-kids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Prince Harry<\/strong> and <strong>Meghan Markle<\/strong> released a surprise video message<\/a> for the musician, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/2018\/05\/harry-meghan-royal-wedding-meaning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">performed at their 2018 wedding<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">\u201cThank you for entertaining everybody for so many decades,\u201d Harry said. \u201cThank you for being the friend that you were for my mum, thank you for being our friend. Thank you for being friend to our kids and thank you for entertaining people right around the world. Even though this is officially your retirement, this will not be your last gig, we know that. But we love you and congratulations on an incredible career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\">John\u2019s reason for unpacking his suitcase and putting an end to the touring life is unsurprising after just one glance at his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/style\/2023\/06\/elton-john-proust-questionnaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 answers to <em>Vanity Fair<\/em>\u2019s Proust Questionnaire<\/a>.
