Hilarie Burton<\/strong><\/a> is looking back at her final day on set of One Tree Hill<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n During the latest episode of her re-watch podcast Drama Queens<\/em><\/a> with former co-stars Sophia Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz<\/strong><\/a>, the ladies recalled filming the season six finale, which marked the final episode that Hilarie<\/strong>, 41, appeared in.<\/p>\n In the podcast, Hilarie<\/strong> explained why filming her final scene was \u201cawkward\u201d and \u201cdeeply uncomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u201cEveryone was saying goodbye to me, but it felt like a funeral,\u201d Hilarie<\/strong> recalled, adding that she was set up in a hospital bed with a prosthetic belly to film the birth of her character Peyton\u2019s baby with Lucas, played by Chad Michael Murray<\/strong><\/a> (who also left after season six).<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m literally laying there like I\u2019m in a coffin,\u201d Hilarie<\/strong> continued. \u201cJames Lafferty<\/strong><\/a> comes up to the side of the bed and is like, \u2018Hey, uh, have a good summer.\u2019 It was so awkward and awful. People would put their head on my hair and say, \u2018Well, I\u2019ll see you next season,\u2019 and I kept being like, \u2018No you won\u2019t! What are you guys talking about?\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n Hilarie<\/strong> went on to say that many of her cast mates and the crew members didn\u2019t believe that she wouldn\u2019t be returning for the next season. They even sent everyone home while Hilarie<\/strong> and Chad<\/strong>, 42, filmed their final scene because it didn\u2019t seem like the end.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an out-of-body experience, [like] being at my own character\u2019s funeral, knowing I wasn\u2019t going to see a lot of you [for years],\u201d Hilarie<\/strong> said as she started to tear up.<\/p>\n She then recalled the wrap gift she received from Sophia<\/strong>, 41, which she kept \u201clike a time capsule.\u201d It was a ring with a note that called it \u201ca 1920s piece, perfect for Paris,\u201d referring to the trip Hilarie<\/strong> took to Paris after she exited the show.<\/p>\n \u201cYou were the only person who believed that I was leaving,\u201d Hilarie<\/strong> told Sophia <\/strong>through tears. \u201cHaving Moira [Kelly]<\/strong><\/a> say it was really important, and having you believe it was really important. It was a bad time and you did something really nice in that moment. I\u2019ve moved houses 8 million times and that has always stayed in the drawer next to my bed.\u201d <\/p>\n Despite the \u201cuncomfortable\u201d situation Hilarie<\/strong> found herself on the set<\/a> of One Tree Hill<\/em>, she said that looking back on the series 15 years later has provided her with some closure.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I can walk away with the narrative of Lucas and Peyton and feel so good about it in a way that I wasn\u2019t allowed to for a long time,\u201d Hilarie<\/strong> said. \u201cWhat it meant leaving was I could then take this knowledge and apply it in different ways.\u201d<\/p>\n She added, \u201cOne Tree Hill<\/em> was grad school, where you just learn what not to do so every other set you work on can be pleasant.\u201d<\/p>\n In another recent episode of their re-watch podcast, Bethany<\/strong> revealed the One Tree Hill<\/em> co-star she kissed off-screen<\/a>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
