Edie Falco<\/a> before he was killed by a heart attack aged 51 in 2013 after years of drug and alcohol issues \u2013 which often caused havoc with the making of the show.<\/p>\nDavid, 78, has now fondly remembered the star, telling a CBS News retrospective on the creation of the landmark show in honour of its 25th anniversary about his love for James\u2019 trademark looks on the series: \u201cHe\u2019s incredible. Well, the whole thing\u2019s about his face and about his eyes, actually. \u201cThere\u2019s something about his eyes that \u2013 it was otherworldly.\u201d<\/p>\n
David also said the humour in the show was so prevalent he could has \u201cnever been able to figure out whether it\u2019s a comedy\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI guess it\u2019s like life. I don\u2019t know, I hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDavid previously told People he was glad the show\u2019s fanbase was still going strong, saying it left him with a \u201ctremendous sense of gratitude\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cI can\u2019t remember this happening with any other television show ever.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDavid also said about James\u2019 performance: \u201cLook at the show, and there you see it. It\u2019s a clich\u00e9 to call that stuff magic, but he was totally inhabiting that fictional creature. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s the best thing I\u2019ve ever done. It\u2019s probably the best thing I ever will do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJames\u2019 co-star Edie Falco, who played his wife Carmela on the show for all six of its series, also told the CBS special she loved working on it so much she \u201ccouldn\u2019t stop crying\u201d during the script read-through for \u2018The Sopranos\u2019 finale.<\/p>\n
\nThe 60-year-old \u2018Nurse Jackie\u2019 star said: \u201cI really couldn\u2019t stop crying \u2013 it was ridiculous. It was, \u2018This thing in this moment will never happen again to me, to anyone.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe series finale is infamous for cutting to black as its lead character Tony looks up at a door opening in a diner, leaving fans furious and puzzled over whether it meant he had been assassinated by a mob rival.<\/p>\n
\nEdie also said she had a \u201calchemy\u201d with her co-star James.<\/p>\n
\nThe mother-of-two Edie, who has never married, added: \u201cWe both had Italian families, had some idea of what this dynamic feels like, and just sort of fell into it with great ease.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt was, you know, a 10-year marriage. And it was as close to a real one as I had known.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
