Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s ski accident trial has been making headlines<\/a> for much more than just the 2016 incident at the center of the case.<\/p>\n The Goop founder and retired doctor Terry Sanderson<\/strong> are on trial due to a 2016 skiing accident<\/a> in Deer Valley, Utah. Per his 2019 lawsuit against the Contagion<\/em> star, Sanderson claimed that Paltrow crashed into him<\/a> on the slopes, which caused him multiple severe injuries. He further alleged that the accident was a hit and run and Paltrow fled the scene.<\/p>\n \u201cGwyneth Paltrow skied out of control and hit the back of Terry Sanderson, another skier, who was downhill, knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries,\u201d read court documents obtained by Us Weekly<\/em> at the time. \u201cPaltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured.\u201d<\/p>\n The Oscar winner, for her part, has not only vehemently denied his allegations but also claimed he was the one who ran into her.<\/p>\n \u201cThis lawsuit is completely without merit, and we expect to be vindicated,\u201d Paltrow said in a statement to Us<\/em> in January 2019. One month later, she filed the countersuit<\/a> and requested a symbolic $1 in damages.<\/p>\n In court documents obtained by Us<\/em> at the time, the MCU star\u2019s legal team claimed that \u201c[Paltrow] was enjoying skiing with her family on vacation in Utah, when Plaintiff \u2014 who was uphill from Ms. Paltrow \u2014 plowed into her back. She sustained a full \u2018body blow.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The documents continued: \u201cMs. Paltrow was angry with Plaintiff, and said so. Plaintiff apologized. She was shaken and upset, and quit skiing for the day even though it was still morning.\u201d<\/p>\n The paperwork also noted that Paltrow and her ski instructor \u201cremained on [the] scene\u201d and \u201crendered aid\u201d to Sanderson.<\/p>\n Paltrow and Sanderson have since taken the stand<\/a> in the trial, which began on March 21 in Utah.<\/p>\n The Royal Tenenbaums<\/em> star has been asked a serious of eyebrow-raising questions<\/a> from the retired optometrist\u2019s attorney Kristin VanOrman<\/strong>. In one line of questioning, the lawyer inquired about Paltrow\u2019s friendship with Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>, who memorably sued a DJ for $1 in 2017<\/a>, four years after he allegedly groped her.<\/p>\n \u201cI think I said [when you first asked me] that I had not been familiar with [the 2017 trial] but I since am,\u201d the Shakespeare in Love<\/em> actress said in response to VanOrman\u2019s question about her friendship with the \u201cShake It Off\u201d singer. \u201cI would not say we are good friends, we are friendly; I\u2019ve taken my kids to one of her concerts before, but we don\u2019t talk very often.\u201d<\/p>\n In another headline-making moment, VanOrman asked Paltrow her height and remarked how \u201cjealous\u201d she was about the Iron Man star\u2019s tall stature. She also commented on Paltrow\u2019s body, calling her \u201csmall\u201d before walking back her statement. \u201cYou\u2019re small but mighty,\u201d the attorney remarked, before clarifying, \u201cActually, you\u2019re not that small.\u201d<\/p>\n Paltrow\u2019s lawyer Stephen Owens<\/strong> has also been under fire for his questions, apologizing after he asked Sanderson\u2019s daughter Polly Sanderson Grasham if her sister, Jenny \u2014 who claimed that their dad was abusive \u2014 was a liar.<\/p>\n \u201cI need to apologize, I was being an ass earlier,\u201d the attorney told Grasham. \u201cIt was wrong for me to triangulate you, your dad, your sister, and your mom. I ask for your forgiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n
