Maren Morris<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 new song with Julia Michaels<\/strong> will have listeners in their feels.<\/p>\n

The first track from Morris\u2019 upcoming EP, Intermission<\/em>, \u201cCut!\u201d captures the singer\u2019s inner dialogue of trying to appear perfect every day \u2014 while falling apart privately at night.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Cut!\u2019 is about me holding myself together through the day, looking well-rested, not a hair out of place, not canceling any plans with friends because that\u2019s how well I want you to think I\u2019m doing,\u201d Morris, 34, said in a press release obtained by Us Weekly<\/em>. \u201cPerhaps those things are all true, but at night, I let the mask slip and let myself scream or fall apart to let the steam out of the kettle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer added, \u201cIt\u2019s a cathartic release that doesn\u2019t require secrecy, but there are worldly expectations to keep it together despite your feelings. This song gives me permission to fall apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMaren Morris and Ryan Hurd\u2018s love story had all the makings of a great country song before they called it quits. Morris and Hurd met during a writing session for Tim McGraw\u2019s song \u201cLast Turn Home\u201d in 2013. The duo were friends for two years before their relationship turned romantic. Hurd detailed their journey in [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In the chorus, Morris sings, \u201cI\u2019m screaming, \u2018Cut\u2019 \/ I need a moment to just \/ Let my tears fall where they want \/ Honestly, f\u2013k \/ I\u2019ve held it in long enough \/ I gave it all that I got \/ I\u2019m screaming, \u2018Cut.’\u201d<\/p>\n

At a different point in the song, Michaels belts out, \u201cI know all my lines \/ I\u2019m annoyingly fine \/ \u2018Til the silence at night calls my bluff.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCut!\u201d is Morris\u2019 second collaboration with Michaels, 30. The pair cowrote \u201cCircles Around This Town\u201d in 2020, which went on to earn two Grammy nominations. In addition to Morris and Michaels, \u201cCut!\u201d was also cowritten by Caroline Allin<\/strong> and Joel Little<\/strong>, with production by Little.<\/p>\n

There are five tracks on Morris\u2019 upcoming EP, which drops on August 2, including: \u201cCut!,\u201d \u201cI Hope I Never Fall in Love,\u201d \u201cPush Me Over,\u201d \u201cBecause, Of Course\u201d and \u201cThis Is How a Woman Leaves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morris, who is in the middle of her RSVP Redux<\/em> tour, previously debuted her song \u201cI Hope I Never Fall in Love\u201d<\/a> during a June 12 concert at Red Rocks in Colorado.<\/p>\n
