\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n Carrie Preston<\/strong><\/a> has been playing Elsbeth Tascioni for 14 years and the character is finally the focus of her own show, Elsbeth<\/strong><\/a><\/em>!<\/p>\n Elsbeth was first introduced as a recurring guest star on the CBS series The Good Wife<\/em> and she also made appearances on the Paramount+ spin-off series The Good Fight<\/em>. Now, Carrie <\/strong>stars in the CBS mystery series Elsbeth<\/em>.<\/p>\n In a new interview, the 57-year-old actress discussed the inspiration behind the character and how the led to the structure of the new series.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Carrie<\/strong> revealed in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> that Elsbeth was modeled after the title character from Columbo<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cFourteen years ago, when they first offered me this delicious role, Robert King<\/strong> got on the phone with me and said, \u2018The way we\u2019re thinking about her is like a female Columbo,\u2019 so it\u2019s kind of prophetic that here we are borrowing the structure of Columbo <\/em>and those great \u2018howdunits,\u2019 but with this very unexpected character at the center of it,\u201d she told THR<\/em>.<\/p>\n Carrie <\/strong>continued, \u201cWe\u2019re so used to seeing men [in these roles] \u2014 Sherlock, Monk, Columbo \u2014 so to have a woman who\u2019s very decidedly unusual, not trying to blend into what\u2019s pretty much a man\u2019s world, makes it really fun and refreshing and a great contrast to what we usually see in a procedural.\u201d<\/p>\n So, will Elsbeth <\/em>be on television for 10 seasons like Columbo<\/em>?<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ll play this character as long as people will have me play her,\u201d Carrie <\/strong>said. \u201cWe\u2019re in a volatile time in our business. It\u2019s very unpredictable, so the fact that we get this opportunity to not only do it again, but to do twice as many episodes as we did in season one, I\u2019m grateful every day because I don\u2019t know how long I\u2019m going to be able to do it.
