The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/21\/business\/video\/tiktok-ai-avatar-disinformation-hitler-digivid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hiccup was first spotted by CNN<\/a> and allowed the outlet to generate videos containing quotes from Hitler and a message telling people to drink bleach, among other phrases. TikTok has since taken this version of the tool down, while the version TikTok intended to launch remains available.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/6\/17\/24179971\/tiktok-ads-ai-generated-avatars-creators-language-dubbing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Launched earlier this week<\/a>, TikTok\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.tiktok.com\/en-us\/announcing-symphony-avatars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Symphony Digital Avatars<\/a> let businesses generate ads using the likeness of paid actors. It also uses AI-powered dubbing that lets advertisers enter a script to make the avatars say what they want within TikTok\u2019s guidelines. Even though only users with a TikTok Ads Manager account can access this tool, the version CNN found let anyone with a personal account try.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">In a statement to <em>The Verge<\/em>, TikTok spokesperson Laura Perez says TikTok has resolved the \u201ctechnical error\u201d that \u201callowed an extremely small number of users to create content using an internal testing version of the tool for a few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">When CNN discovered the internal tool, it let the outlet generate videos reciting Osama bin Laden\u2019s \u201cLetter to America,\u201d a white supremacy slogan, and a video telling people to vote on the wrong day. None of the videos CNN produced had a watermark disclosing that the video is AI-generated, which is something the proper version of TikTok\u2019s Symphony Digital Avatars does. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">CNN didn\u2019t post the videos it created to TikTok, but Perez notes that if it had, the content \u201cwould have been rejected for violating our policies.\u201d Even though TikTok has since taken this version of its tool down, it calls into question whether people will find other ways to abuse the digital avatar creator \u2014 and if TikTok is ready for it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/6\/21\/24183335\/tiktok-ai-symphony-digital-avatar-generator-moderation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TikTok mistakenly posted a link to an internal version of its new AI digital avatar tool without guardrails, letting users create videos that say just about anything.
