Looking at myself in the mirror as a cop \u2014 especially a Black cop in the 1960s \u2014 the level of that was very interesting,\u201d the actor recalled. \u201cJust from walking around on set, you had people that were just talking to you very fluidly when you are in your character\u2019s clothes. They are now talking to you a lot differently when you\u2019re dressed in that cop uniform. So I used it and I was able to use it in a very resourceful way for Ferdie.\u201d<\/p>\n
To properly portray the time period<\/a>, Noel offered to change his real hair for Ferdie\u2019s look \u2014 to mixed results.<\/p>\n\u201cI thought I was being smart. I thought I had a genius idea. I said, \u2018OK, I\u2019m just going to use my real hair for these sideburns.\u2019 It means I get to spend much more time preparing for the character in the trailer and less time in hair and makeup,\u201d he told Us. \u201cBut walking around for seven months in downtown Baltimore with those sideburns forever on my face \u2014 I didn\u2019t meet a lot of new friends and people ask questions. So will I do it again? I don\u2019t know. But I\u2019m glad it looked good on Ferdie.\u201d<\/p>\n
