There\u2019s nothing Bachelor Nation loves more than a proposal \u2014 but Matt James <\/strong><\/a>and Rachael Kirkconnell<\/strong><\/a> are continuing to do things on their own time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing great. I feel like when you feel pressure, it\u2019s when you don\u2019t wanna do something. So I\u2019ve never really felt pressure [to get engaged] because it\u2019s something that I\u2019ve always wanted to do,\u201d James, 32, told Us Weekly<\/em> while promoting his partnership with Tylenol. \u201cAnd it\u2019s something that we\u2019re gonna do at some point. That\u2019s why we\u2019re together and what we\u2019re working toward. I\u2019m excited about our future.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the time does come, James says he will have to get creative to pull off the surprise for Kirkconnell<\/a>, 27.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe asks a million questions. \u2026, \u2018Why are you asking me to get my nails done? Why are we doing this?\u2019 She\u2019s just so intuitive that it\u2019s gonna be tricky,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be tough because she needs a reason why we do anything \u2014 and not a crazy reason, [but] just to know why. She never does something just to do it. So when that happens, I\u2019ll have to think outside the box. I\u2019ll have to stretch the truth on why we\u2019re doing something.\u201d<\/p>\n

ABC named the 29-year-old Wake Forest graduate the season 25 lead in June 2020, subsequently revealing that the series received a record number of submissions for contestants. Among the 38 women who had the opportunity to meet Matt [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

James and Kirkconnell met on season 25 of The Bachelor, which aired in early 2021. Nearly a year before the season aired, ABC announced on Good Morning America<\/em> in June 2020 that he would be handing out roses. When Us<\/em> informed James that it was recently the four-year anniversary since the GMA<\/em> announcement (June 12, 2020), he was visibly surprised.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was crazy. I just think about that day and being at my friend\u2019s house with Tyler [Cameron]<\/strong>. I had on a bathing suit and Tyler\u2019s salmon jacket, which he wore everywhere,\u201d he said. \u201cFour years ago \u2014 it\u2019s like I was a freshman. I\u2019m a senior now, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhile some roses stand the test of time, others wilt before the Neil Lane engagement ring can be resized. The Bachelor premiered on ABC in March 2002 with Alex Michel dubbed the world\u2019s most eligible Bachelor. More than 20 women competed for his heart and one of the most successful reality TV franchises was born. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

When asked what advice he\u2019d give his younger self, James took a minute.\u201dThat\u2019s a good question. What would I tell Matt? I\u2019d probably tell him that Tom Brady\u2019s gonna win a Super Bowl, so put some money on the Bucs,\u201d he said with a laugh before getting serious. \u201cI would say just enjoy the process. It\u2019s gonna be crazy, but just trust yourself. Because I don\u2019t regret anything that\u2019s happened over the past four years. It\u2019s been amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to looking back, James told Us<\/em> about his summer plans, which include traveling with Kirkconnell while also maintaining his training schedule as he hopes to run the New York City marathon in under three hours.<\/p>\n
