The Boys<\/em> <\/a>showrunner Eric Kripke<\/strong><\/a> hasn\u2019t changed his opinions on the trolls who attacked series star Erin Moriarty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Moriarty, who plays Starlight on the Prime Video series, first spoke out in 2022 about feeling attacked by some of the fandom. In response, Kripke quickly came to her defense on social media<\/a>, telling rolls that they were enacting the \u201copposite of the show\u2019s f\u2014king message\u201d and \u201ccausing pain to real people with real feelings.\u201d He added that those who \u201ccan\u2019t be kind\u201d should \u201ceat a bag of dicks, f\u2014k off to the sun and don\u2019t watch The Boys.<\/em> We don\u2019t want you.\u201d<\/p>\n

While speaking to Variety<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Tuesday, June 18, Kripke maintained that his feelings on the subject haven\u2019t changed \u2014 and explained why he felt the need to respond in the first place.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst question, why I did it, is I\u2019m really protective of my actors. They\u2019re all really good people, and you start to feel like their dad in a way. And she was genuinely hurt, and really upset. I just felt like, \u2018F\u2014k them!\u2019 I was genuinely angry,\u201d he said, admitting that he didn\u2019t put \u201ca lot of careful thought\u201d into the message at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThere\u2019s no shame in loving your body. Thankfully, more Hollywood stars than ever before are preaching that message, and they won\u2019t let body-shaming comments slide anymore. Lizzo has been vocal about trying to help people accept all body sizes. \u201cI want to normalize my body. And not just be like, \u2018Ooh, look at this cool [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kripke noted that while in the moment, he was just \u201cpissed that they were coming after one of my actors,\u201d he was pleasantly surprised by the response to his tweet being \u201cstrangely positive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there was just a lot of people that watched that stuff from afar and is just, like, \u2018That\u2019s bullshit,\u2019\u201d he explained. Kripke added that he knows people are allowed to like or dislike a \u201cperformance\u201d or \u201cshow,\u201d but the hate against Moriarty felt way too personal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it starts to become these personal attacks on who they are, and when f\u2014king Megyn Kelly<\/strong> wants to talk about it, it\u2019s really not fair because they\u2019re not in a position that they can fight back,\u201d he said. \u201cSo yeah, all the trolls really can eat a bag of dicks and f\u2014k off to the sun. I reiterate that comment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moriarty first spoke out about the hate she\u2019s received about her character in September 2022, reposting a fan article to Instagram titled \u201c#IStandWithStarlight?: The Betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys Fans\u201d to her Instagram account. Written by Instagram user @butcherscanary, the piece pointed out the misogynistic hate both Moriarty and Starlight had been receiving online since The Boys<\/em> premiered in 2019.<\/p>\n

In the post\u2019s caption, Moriarty shared that she felt \u201cparalyzed\u201d by the vitriol being spewed her way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve put blood, sweat and tears into this role (over & over & over again), I\u2019ve grown UP in this character\u2019s shoes (*emphasis on grown up \u2014 we change & evolve mentally AND physically),\u201d she wrote. \u201cSo with that I say: a) thank you to @butcherscanary b) this does break my heart \u2014 I\u2019ve opened up a vein for this role and the misogynistic trolling is exactly what this role (Annie) would speak out against and c) everyone\u2019s going through their own battle(s); let\u2019s not add to that. I will never intentionally (and ESPECIALLY) publicly, add to yours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tensions rose once again in January when Moriarity was the subject plastic surgery speculation after posting some Instagram photos that featured her weight loss and a full glam look. The criticism then took a larger spotlight when Moriarty was used as an example of alleged extreme plastic surgery on Sirius XM\u2019s The Megyn Kelly Show<\/em> <\/a>later that month.<\/p>\n

Kelly, 53, displayed what she called a \u201crelatively recent\u201d photo of Moriarty, and claimed the picture was taken within the last year, calling her \u201ca nice, beautiful, natural gal.\u201d She then showed a more recent snap that she claimed was shocking, alleging Moriarty now had \u201cKim Kardashian<\/strong> lips\u201d and altered her nose and cheeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I\u2019m not against plastic surgery,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cThis is something else. This is like a mental disorder. This is extreme. When you start off incredibly beautiful and you end up like a plastic Barbie version of a Kardashian.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moriarty quickly took to Instagram to shut down the false allegations, claiming that Kelly had used an old photo of her that was taken \u201ca decade ago\u201d \u2014 seemingly at the 2016 premiere of Captain Fantastic. As far as the newer photo she had posted to her own account, Morarty explained that she simply felt \u201cpretty\u201d after getting her makeup done. She added that while she was expecting a certain degree of troll-like behavior, she never thought it would spiral out of control.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things. I had no idea what was going on, to be honest, because I\u2019ve had one of the most challenging weeks of my life,\u201d Moriarty explained. \u201cI specifically thought that as I emerge this period of time \u2014 so stressed that I BARELY been able to eat and sleep. \u201cI thought ok, I\u2019m going to emerge this 10 pounds thinner and the verbal abuse\/accusations will be flying \u2014 usually either drug use or just a flippant \u2018eat a burger\u2019 comment. You learn to become Teflon and move on. I had NO idea what was going on this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
