Tom Bergeron<\/strong><\/a> may not miss his role as cohost of Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a>, but there is one thing from the ABC series he wishes he still had in his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe paycheck,\u201d Bergeron hilariously revealed in a recent interview with E! News<\/em><\/a>. \u201cThere are some people I miss, but I\u2019m really happy not hosting.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also revealed that despite hosting the dance competition for 15 years, he never had the desire to tune in to the show at home. \u201cTo be honest, I never watched it when I was hosting it,\u201d he shared. \u201cI watched it while I was there, obviously, but I never watched it as a TV show.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bergeron famously starred on DWTS<\/em> from season 1 to season 28 before he and his cohost Erin Andrews<\/strong> were let go<\/a> ahead of season 29 in July 2020. \u201cJust informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It\u2019s been an incredible 15-year run and the most unexpected gift of my career,\u201d he announced via X at the time. \u201cI\u2019m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s exit came nearly a year after Bergeron expressed his disapproval<\/a> of casting former White House press secretary Sean Spicer<\/strong> for season 28. \u201cIt is the prerogative of the producers, in partnership with the network, to make whatever decisions they feel are in the best long-term interests of the franchise,\u201d Bergeron wrote in a since-deleted tweet. \u201cWe can agree to disagree, as we do now, but ultimately it\u2019s their call. I\u2019ll leave it to them to answer any further questions about those decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, DWTS<\/em> executive producer Andrew Llinares<\/strong> told Us Weekly<\/em>, \u201cWe\u2019ve got a great and diverse cast. We are excited about the season.\u201d Spicer also replied to the drama<\/a> in a statement to Us<\/em>, calling Bergeron a \u201cgreat host\u201d and said bringing \u201ca diverse group of people together, who can interact in a fun, civil and respectful way, is actually a way we can move the country forward in a positive way.\u201d Spicer and his dance partner, Lindsay Arnold<\/strong>, ultimately came in sixth place.<\/p>\n

Bergeron and Andrew\u2019s axing was met with disappointed reactions<\/a> from fans and the show\u2019s cast and pro dancers. Llinares later explained in September 2020 that the decision was made to help the long-running show \u201cevolve,\u201d<\/a> adding, \u201cI think changing the hosts was all about evolution, it was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new [and] kind of make it reach out \u2014 maybe to a new audience as well, as well as the audience that\u2019s been there for years.\u201d<\/p>\n
