Jonathan Groff<\/a><\/strong> has won his first Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for \u201cMerrily We Roll Along.\u201d<\/p>\n Groff played Franklin Shepard alongside Lindsay Mendez<\/strong> and Daniel Radcliffe<\/a>, <\/strong>who also won their first Tony Award at the 77th Annual Tony Awards<\/a><\/strong>. Groff was also in tears <\/strong>when Radcliffe thanked him in his speech.<\/p>\n Groff\u2019s Merrily We Roll Along<\/strong><\/em> was his third nomination. He was previously nominated for his roles as King George the III in Hamilton<\/strong><\/em> and Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n In a teary-eyed speech, Groff said the Tony Awards have always meant a lot to him, and he used to tape it on VHS when he was a child, \u201cAll I wanted was to be a part of this community,\u201d after growing up in a conservative town in Pennsylvania.
