Alan Cumming<\/strong><\/a> has a lot of thoughts about his role as Nightcrawler in the 2003 Marvel movie X2: X-Men United<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I think the X-Men<\/em> film I\u2019m in is the gayest film that I\u2019ve ever done \u2014 and that\u2019s me saying that,\u201d Cumming, 59, told Entertainment Weekly<\/em><\/a> during a retrospective of his career, published on Sunday, June 16. \u201cIt\u2019s got a queer director, lots of queer actors in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The movie was the second installment in 20th Century Fox\u2019s X-Men<\/em> franchise. X2<\/em> was directed by the controversial Bryan Singer<\/strong> (who was later accused of professional and sexual misconduct, and has since denied the allegations<\/a>)\u00a0and costarred Ian McKellen<\/strong>, who was openly gay, as well as Anna Paquin<\/strong>, who came out as bisexual<\/a> in 2010.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the fact that something so mainstream and so in the comic book world is so queer,\u201d Cumming continued. \u201cI think, in a way, those sorts of films really help people understand queerness, because you can address it in an artistic way, and everyone is less scared of the concept. It\u2019s an allegory about queerness, about people having these great gifts and really great, powerful things that they have to hide to exist. Queer people understand what that\u2019s all about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cumming brought the character Kurt Wagner \/ Nightcrawler \u2014 a mutant resembling a blue demon who can teleport from place to place \u2014 to life after Singer wanted him to play the role. The Traitors<\/em><\/a> star further discussed the \u201creally interesting\u201d role in a blog post on his website<\/a>, and how certain processes became quite the experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe real drag was having to spend over four hours a day having two men poke my face,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThen there were the harnesses for the tail and for flying, the feet, the hands \u2014 which made going to the loo a group effort, the teeth, the lenses, oh God don\u2019t get me started.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he couldn\u2019t tease anything about The Traitors<\/em> season 3 just yet (the cast was announced<\/a> earlier this month), Cumming did tell EW<\/em> on Sunday that the show has been a \u201cgreat\u201d experience overall.<\/p>\n
