Hours after three children and three adults were murdered<\/a> at the Covenant School in Tennessee on Monday, Republican congressman Tim Burchett<\/strong> beat out all his conservative peers to win the award for the most callous, f–ked-up response to the mass shooting, the 38th since the start of this month<\/a>. Note: This award isn\u2019t actually real and there\u2019s no medal or monetary sum to be collected for coming in first, making Burchett\u2019s response all the more jaw-dropping.<\/p>\n Speaking to reporters, outside the Capitol, Burchett said that what had happened was \u201ca horrible, horrible situation\u201d\u2014and then declared: \u201cwe\u2019re not going to fix it.<\/strong>\u201d (Emphasis ours.)\u00a0To be clear, the lawmaker wasn\u2019t saying this to underscore the collective frustration and feelings of rage millions of Americans feel for politicians who continue to allow these types of \u201csituation[s]\u201d to occur, offer \u201cthoughts and prayers<\/a>,\u201d and then refuse to pass meaningful gun control legislation; he was saying \u201cwe\u2019re not going to fix it\u201d because he thinks that\u2019s correct course of action. \u201cCriminals are going to be criminals,\u201d he continued, adding: \u201cAnd my daddy fought in the Second World War, fought in the Pacific, fought the Japanese, and he told me, he said, \u2018Buddy,\u2019 he said, \u2018if somebody wants to take you out and doesn\u2019t mind losing their life, there\u2019s not a whole heck of a lot you can do about it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n This content can also be viewed on the site it originates<\/a> from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Incredibly, he went on: Asked if he thinks \u201cthere\u2019s any role for Congress to play in reaction [to Covenant School shooting],\u201d Burchett doubled down, saying: \u201cI don\u2019t see any real role that we could do other than mess things up honestly because of the situation\u2026I don\u2019t think our criminals are going to stop from [getting] guns, you know you can print them out on the computer now, 3D printing\u2026I don\u2019t think you\u2019re going to stop the gun violence. I think you\u2019ve got to change people\u2019s hearts.
