Joe Alwyn<\/strong><\/a> finally broke his silence on his breakup from Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a>, more than one year after news of their split broke.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIn thinking on what I was going to say, I would think and hope that anyone and everyone can empathize,\u201d Joe, 33, told <\/span>The Sunday Times <\/span><\/i><\/a>in an interview published Saturday, June 15, when asked if he has listened to Taylor\u2019s latest album, <\/span>The Tortured Poets Department<\/a>. <\/span><\/i>\u201cThis isn\u2019t a direct answer to your question, but just thinking about what I want to talk about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He continued, \u201cI would hope that anyone and everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. That is a hard thing to navigate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The \u201cGuilty as Sin?\u201d artist, 34, and the <\/span>Conversations With Friends <\/span><\/i>actor were first linked after crossing paths<\/a> at the 2016 Met Gala that May. Taylor was in a relationship with Calvin Harris at the time, but that relationship ended shortly after.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Throughout their more than six year relationship, the pair managed to keep their relationship extremely private, often hiding away in the U.K. News of their split came as a shock to Swifties after the singer penned such remarkable love songs about her beau.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe relationship had just run its course. It\u2019s why [Joe] hasn\u2019t been spotted at any [Eras tour] shows,\u201d a source told <\/span>Entertainment Tonight<\/a> <\/span><\/i>at the time, adding the split \u201cwas not dramatic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Amid Taylor\u2019s <\/span>Tortured Poets Department <\/span><\/i>album \u2013 which was released in April \u2013 fans seemingly got an inside look<\/a> at the downfall of their relationship in songs<\/a> such as \u201cSo Long, London<\/a>\u201d, \u201cMy Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys\u201d and \u201cloml.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Joe went on to dish to the outlet about the public nature of his split from Taylor, saying, \u201cWhat is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it\u2019s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSo you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said.
