Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> star Nicola Coughlan<\/strong><\/a> is setting the record straight on speculation about her appearance on the Netflix series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw some trolls. They were like, \u2018They photoshopped your waist,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018No, they did not,\u2019\u201d Coughlan, 37, told People<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Wednesday, June 12.<\/p>\n

Season 3 of the period romance, which premiered last month, sees Coughlan\u2019s character, Penelope Featherington, gain newfound confidence after trading in her family\u2019s over-the-top and colorful wardrobe for a new, sophisticated look. One thing all of Penelope\u2019s outfits throughout the series include are corsets, something Coughlan said her body has grown used to over time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think if you wear corsetry for long enough, your body really molds to it,\u201d she explained. \u201cSometimes they come in a fitting for a fashion designer and they put a corset on me and I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, you can go tight,\u2019 and they go, \u2018What do you mean?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018My body now will go whew.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPenelope Featherington comes into her own in\u00a0Bridgerton\u00a0season 3, much like actress Nicola Coughlan\u2019s own style transformation. \u201cI think I used to be quite intimidated by [the industry], it sort of robbed me of confidence,\u201d Coughlan told\u00a0Vogue\u00a0in May 2022, referring to her past struggles with body insecurity. \u201cI thought, I really enjoy this, so why am [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Coughlan has stood up against body-shamers several times since taking over as Bridgerton<\/em>\u2019s leading lady for season 3, which follows the love story between Penelope and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton<\/strong>). Earlier this month, she gave a hilarious response to someone stating that she\u2019s \u201cvery brave\u201d for baring it all in some of the show\u2019s steamier scenes.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, it is hard, \u2019cause I think women with my body type \u2014 women with perfect breasts<\/a> \u2014 we do not get to see ourselves onscreen enough,\u201d she quipped at a June 6 Bridgerton<\/em> season 3 part 2 fan screening in Dublin. \u201cI am very proud as a member of the perfect breasts community, and I hope you enjoy seeing them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, the actress told Stylist<\/em><\/a> magazine that she \u201cspecifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included\u201d in season 3\u2019s NSFW scenes, adding, \u201cThere\u2019s one scene where I\u2019m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

She described the \u201cempowering\u201d decision as being \u201cthe biggest \u2018f\u2013k you\u2019<\/a> to all the conversation surrounding my body,\u201d noting, \u201cI felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: \u2018When I\u2019m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f\u2013king hot I looked!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

That being said, Coughlan revealed back in February that she did request a \u201cPG version\u201d of season 3<\/a> for her mom to watch in order to avoid awkward moments. \u201cIf you want to watch it with your mum and dad, go for it, [but] having seen bits \u2026\u201d she told Australia\u2019s Today FM<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
