Amy Poehler<\/strong><\/a> couldn\u2019t be more\u00a0joyous<\/i>\u00a0about getting to reprise her role for Inside Out<\/em> 2<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty awesome that I get to play [Joy] again,\u201d Poehler, 52, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> at the Monday, July 11, Los Angeles premiere of the Disney sequel. \u201cI love this character so much. I\u2019m so proud to be in this movie. It really is a dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poehler portrays Joy in both the 2015 film and its subsequent 2024 follow up \u2014\u00a0 the lead of the five major emotions inside the mind of Riley Andersen (Kaitlyn Dias<\/strong>). However, while Joy may be No. 1 in Riley\u2019s mind, Poehler said that she doesn\u2019t see her character as the \u201cbest\u201d of the emotions, telling Us<\/em> that they \u201call\u201d have \u201csomething they bring to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to how Poehler brings Joy to life on screen, the actress said that it was easy to jump back into the character\u2019s shoes a second time. \u201cYou know what? I actually thought about the first movie to play Joy for the second,\u201d she quipped to Us<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Directed by Pete Doctor<\/strong>, Inside Out<\/em> hit theaters in 2015 and starred the voices of Poehler, Dias, Phyllis Smith<\/strong>, Richard Kind<\/strong>, Bill Hader<\/strong>, Lewis Black<\/strong>, Mindy Kaling<\/strong>, Diane Lane<\/strong> and Kyle MacLachlan<\/strong>. The first movie followed five of Riley\u2019s emotions \u2014 Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear and Sadness \u2014 as they helped Kaitlyn deal with her family\u2019s relocation from the midwest to San Francisco. The sequel sees the addition<\/a> of stars like Maya Hawke<\/strong>, Ayo Edebiri<\/strong> and Tony Hale,<\/strong> who play Anxiety, Envy and Fear, respectively, a second set of emotions that threaten to throw a wrench into the operation once Riley hits puberty.<\/p>\n

While speaking to Yahoo UK<\/em><\/a> earlier this month, Poehler \u2014 who is mom to kids Archie, 15, and Abel, 13, whom she shares with ex husband Will Arnett<\/strong> \u2014 said she is drawn to Pixar films like Inside Out<\/em> because they take \u201chigh concepts and create visual landscapes that can help us communicate better and talk about stuff\u201d like mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first one they managed to find a way to remind us that sadness is [OK], it\u2019s OK to sit with sadness and just stay there, which is such a beautiful idea, and [in] the second one, anxiety shows up and gets everyone all bothered,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo I think it\u2019s going to be another version of that where you\u2019re going to be able to talk to your younger self or your young kids about what anxiety does when it\u2019s left unchecked, and in a funny, interesting visual way.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Riley gets to have some of Hollywood\u2019s favorite A-listers voice the feelings inside of her, Poehler\u2019s Inside Out<\/em> costar Ron Funches<\/strong> \u2014 who portrays Bloofy, a character from Riley\u2019s favorite childhood TV show, in the films \u2014 told Us<\/em> that he has his own list of stars he\u2019d want working as his inner monologue.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnger would be Danny DeVito<\/strong>. That\u2019s good casting, right?\u201d he joked. \u201cAnd then sadness would probably be that guy from The Office<\/em><\/a> [Kevin, played by Brian Baumgartner<\/strong>], who dropped the chili.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThanks for a memorable summer, Barbenheimer. You deserved a better and more coherent movie, Captain Marvel and Ant-Man. That title alone was a win, Cocaine Bear. But the turn of the calendar means it\u2019s time to get excited about a fresh slate of movies. And despite all those stop-and-start productions and delayed releases due to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He added, \u201cJoy will be Lisa Kudrow<\/strong> or me. I\u2019m also very joyful. I\u2019d probably go with Lisa for that. And then Envy, if Lisa played Joy, [because] I\u2019d probably play Envy because I\u2019d be envious of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

No matter who is playing them, Funches, 41, emphasized that every emotion is \u201cequally valuable\u201d \u2014 which is something he\u2019ll be able to teach his two sons through the lens of these films.<\/p>\n
