As the steamy second half of Bridgerton<\/em>\u2019s third season<\/a> nears, Nicola Coughlan<\/strong><\/a> is celebrating her record-breaking work<\/a> on the hit Netflix series\u2014and shutting down commentary about her body in the process.<\/p>\n During a recent post-screening Q&A in Dublin, a journalist said<\/a> that Coughlan was \u201cvery brave\u201d to bare her body onscreen for her role as Penelope Featherington. Without missing a beat, she replied, \u201cYou know, it is hard \u2019cause I think women with my body type, women with perfect breasts\u2014we do not see ourselves onscreen enough,\u201d which earned her laughs and cheers from the audience. \u201cI am very proud as a member of the perfect-breasts community. I hope you enjoy seeing them.\u201d<\/p>\n Coughlan leads this season of Bridgerton<\/em> alongside Luke Newton<\/a>,<\/strong> who plays Colin, Penelope\u2019s lifelong friend who has become her betrothed following a sexy carriage ride that sent the internet into a frenzy<\/a>. The next four episodes contain even more Regency-era trysts between the couple, which Coughlan played an integral role in mapping alongside her leading man and the show\u2019s intimacy coordinator, Lizzy Talbot.<\/strong> \u201cI specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,\u201d she told Stylist<\/em> magazine<\/a> (via BuzzFeed<\/a>). \u201cThere\u2019s one scene where I\u2019m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest \u2018fuck you\u2019 to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.\u201d Coughlan added that she \u201cfelt beautiful\u201d during those scenes and wanted to be able to \u201clook back on this and remember how fucking hot I looked.\u201d<\/p>\n The actor, who got her start on the coming-of-age comedy Derry Girls,<\/em> has long established that she\u2019d rather the world not focus on her physical appearance. \u201cIf you have an opinion about my body please, please don\u2019t share it with me,\u201d she wrote on Instagram<\/a> in 2022. \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions on how you look being sent directly to you every day.\u201d She later told the The Irish Times<\/a>,<\/em> \u201cAll I care about is the work. Bodies change\u2014if I lose weight or gain weight or I do anything, it\u2019s no one\u2019s business. All I care about is doing good acting and being judged on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
