Julianna Margulies<\/strong><\/a> is leaving the newsroom \u2014 and hanging up her journalist hat \u2014 ahead of season 4 of The Morning Show<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Margulies, who played journalist and Bradley Jackson\u2019s (Reese Witherspoon<\/strong>) ex-girlfriend Laura Peterson, is not returning for season 4, Us Weekly<\/em> can confirm.<\/p>\n

According to a Variety<\/em><\/a> report published on Monday, June 10, the actress, 58, turned down a one-episode season 4 cameo. The outlet also stated that Margulies was also asked about if she had interest in coming back for a potential fifth season.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Morning Show is working double time to make sure its season 4 return feels timely. \u201cThe show will be out after the election,\u201d showrunner and executive producer Charlotte Stoudt told audience members at PaleyFest on April 13, adding that the new season is in the midst of being written but she is struggling to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Margulies\u2019 decision not to return was reportedly determined before she made waves in 2023 for her controversial comments about the war in Gaza.<\/p>\n

The Emmy winner turned heads in November 2023 when she made derogatory comments about Black and LGBTQIA+ supporters of Palestine. Margulies claimed during her appearance on Andy Ostroy<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cThe Back Room\u201d podcast that Black people have \u201cbeen brainwashed to hate Jews.\u201d<\/p>\n

Margulies took issue with Black and LGBTQIA+ people who were speaking out against Israel\u2019s attacks on Gaza, referring to a Black lesbian couple at Columbia University who hosted a film screening that reportedly wouldn\u2019t allow Jewish students to attend.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs someone who plays a lesbian journalist on The Morning Show<\/em><\/a>, I am more offended by it as a lesbian than I am as a Jew,\u201d Margulies said. \u201cBecause I wanna say to them: You f\u2013king idiots. You don\u2019t exist. You\u2019re even lower than the Jews. A, you\u2019re Black, and B, you\u2019re gay. And you\u2019re turning your back against the people who support you? Because Jews, they rally around everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, many television stars have suddenly left their roles \u2014 while others have been cut from a series without much notice. Anna Faris announced in September 2020 that she was leaving CBS\u2019 Mom after starring as the lead character [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Good Wife<\/em><\/a> alum issued an apology for her outburst<\/a> in December 2023, confessing that she was \u201chorrified\u201d that her remarks \u201coffended the Black and LGBTQIA+ communities,\u201d calling both groups \u201ccommunities I truly love and respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Margulies continued: \u201cI want to be 100 percent clear: Racism, homophobia, sexism, or any prejudice against anyone\u2019s personal beliefs or identity are abhorrent to me, full stop. Throughout my career I have worked tirelessly to combat hate of all kind, end antisemitism, speak out against terrorist groups like Hamas, and forge a united front against discrimination. I did not intend for my words to sow further division, for which I am sincerely apologetic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to her controversial podcast appearance, The Morning Show<\/em> showrunner Charlotte Stoudt<\/strong> revealed that she was open to Margulies\u2019 character having a role in season 4. Margulies joined the cast as Laura during season 2 and sparked a romance with Bradley, but the two split the following season. Laura continued to have stories throughout season 3.<\/p>\n
