Mamie Laverock\u2019s family have shared the first photo of the \u2018When Calls the Heart\u2019 actress since she was almost killed in a hospital balcony fall<\/p>\n
\nThe 19-year-old actress, famed for her role as nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan on the popular Hallmark show, plunged five storeys in May in an accident her mother last week branded \u201cnegligence\u201d by medical authorities.<\/p>\n
\nHer family have now posted an updated on her condition by posting a close-up image of her in her hospital bed on Facebook.<\/p>\n
\nThe image showed the teen\u2019s hand resting on a teddy bear, with her fingernails painted red.<\/p>\n
\nMamie\u2019s face was out of the frame but it was clear she was hooked to an IV.<\/p>\n
\nNews broke in May Mamie was on life support after she plunged from a five-story balcony at a Vancouver hospital where she had been recovering from an undisclosed \u201cmedical emergency\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHer mother Nicole Rockmann has said St Paul\u2019s Hospital now has a \u201cnegligence-type case\u201d to answer. <\/p>\n
\nShe told the Los Angeles Times: \u201cWe have a case. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she\u2019s alive and that she\u2019s fighting and that she\u2019s strong.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s unbelievable that she\u2019s with us. There will be accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNicole said it was an \u201cabsolute miracle\u201d Mamie is alive and blamed St Paul\u2019s for the fall \u2013 which she stressed was not \u201cintended\u201d and wasn\u2019t a suicide attempt by the actress.<\/p>\n
\nMamie was transferred from St Paul\u2019s to a trauma centre after her fall.<\/p>\n
\nA spokesperson for Providence Health Care, which operates St Paul\u2019s, confirmed to the LA Times an \u201cincident happened\u201d at the hospital but could not get into details due to patient privacy.<\/p>\n
\nThe representative added: \u201cIn cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cOur hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhen Nicole spoke to the LA Times, she said Mamie had \u201cjust opened her eyes\u201d and was \u201caware\u201d enough to be able to squeeze her hand.<\/p>\n
\nBut she added the actress was in \u201ctremendous\u201d agony and she was being sedated after multiple surgeries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
