She had another brain bleed in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight,\u201d Clarke, 37, said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigissue.com\/culture\/emilia-clarke-brain-injury-sameyou-game-of-thrones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Big Issue<\/em><\/a> published on Monday, June 10. \u201cThe first fear we all had was: \u2018Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Polay\/courtesy of HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Clarke first opened up about her brain injuries in an essay for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/personal-history\/emilia-clarke-a-battle-for-my-life-brain-aneurysm-surgery-game-of-thrones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The New Yorker<\/em><\/a> in March 2019, just before the final season of Game of Thrones premiered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe diagnosis was quick and ominous: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain. I\u2019d had an aneurysm, an arterial rupture,\u201d she wrote of her first aneurysm in February 2011. \u201cAs I later learned, about a third of SAH patients die immediately or soon thereafter. For the patients who do survive, urgent treatment is required to seal off the aneurysm, as there is a very high risk of a second, often fatal bleed. If I was to live and avoid terrible deficits, I would have to have urgent surgery. Throughout the show\u2019s epic eight season run, actress Emilia Clarke has traded her naturally brunette tresses for Khaleesi\u2019s luscious (and lengthy!) icy blonde locks, and, in the process, she\u2019s rocked some pretty spectacular plaits. If you\u2019ve [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Following the surgery, Clarke recalled how she suffered from aphasia and couldn\u2019t remember her name.<\/p>\n<p>The actress\u2019 second injury was in 2013 after filming Game of Thrones season 3. I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn\u2019t operate again.
