To add to that, Best Buy\u2019s Geek Squad is in the middle of shutting down its Samsung authorized service provider program (ASP), which lets certain Best Buy stores repair your phone with genuine Samsung parts, tools, and training. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\"><em>The Verge <\/em>was initially tipped off to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GeekSquad\/comments\/1cst3kr\/samsung_asp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geek Squad subreddit thread<\/a> saying the company was leaving the program. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GeekSquad\/comments\/1cst3kr\/samsung_asp\/l47pud1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Several<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GeekSquad\/comments\/1cst3kr\/samsung_asp\/l47l2c3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">others<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/GeekSquad\/comments\/1cst3kr\/samsung_asp\/l49jawj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in<\/a> that thread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/BestBuyWorkers\/comments\/1cv67ss\/comment\/l4tgjlu\/?context=3&amp;share_id=sD1VIGbdZC5XYoqeYF-ED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">and another r\/BestBuyWorkers one<\/a> appeared to confirm the same. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Next, we spoke with a Geek Squad employee who not only corroborated those reports but also provided an internal screenshot stating that \u201cSamsung ASP is ending in all SASP locations.\u201d It directs employees to begin preparing to return their parts:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">The Samsung ASP program ensured that techs at authorized Best Buy stores were certified to repair Samsung phones with official Samsung parts. Only certain stores were part of the program, and if you were near one, it would show up when you attempted to schedule a repair. One store I\u2019d seen listed over a week ago \u2014 the Fort Worth, Texas, suburb of Hulen \u2014 is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/support\/service\/locations\/?product=N0055221&amp;zip=11201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">no longer listed<\/a>. I also couldn\u2019t find any Best Buy locations listed when I searched other major metropolitan areas, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/support\/service\/locations\/?product=N0055221&amp;zip=90274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles, California<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/support\/service\/locations\/?product=N0055221&amp;zip=80216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Denver, Colorado<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/support\/service\/locations\/?product=N0055221&amp;zip=33131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miami, Florida<\/a>. Instead, listed stores are almost exclusively UBreakiFix locations. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Best Buy and Samsung are not denying that they\u2019re winding down the program. Replacement may also now <a href=\"https:\/\/arc.net\/l\/quote\/sglfcqjy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">involve a deductible<\/a> (which can be $199 or $249 depending on how much your phone costs). <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Despite the apparent wind-down of this repair program, the two companies seemingly still have tight relationships. During Best Buy\u2019s recent earnings call, CEO Corie Barry said the company is actually expanding a partnership with Samsung for \u201cvendor-provided expert labor in appliances departments across hundreds of stores.\u201d Samsung already often stations experts inside Best Buy stores to help sell the brand\u2019s personal electronics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">But Best Buy\u2019s plan for next year is to create \u201cfurther efficiencies\u201d in its supply chain and Geek Squad repairs, Barry said on the earnings call. Some Best Buy employees are apparently bracing for layoffs today, June 6th, after the company told its field deployment project team employees to work from home and await a \u201cbusiness update.\u201d Best Buy Geek Squad employees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/4\/5\/24122542\/best-buy-geek-squad-layoffs-ai-restructuring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already reported mass layoffs<\/a> in April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Best Buy\u2019s exit of the Samsung ASP program would leave fewer options for Samsung owners to repair their phones in light of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/samsung\/2024\/5\/23\/24162135\/ifixit-end-samsung-repair-parts-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iFixit\u2019s announcement<\/a> that it was cutting ties with Samsung over parts pricing and availability. iFixit also cited limits on how many components it could sell to repair shops.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Besides that, there were plenty of odd terms in Samsung\u2019s contracts with the repair shops it authorized, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/samsung-requires-independent-repair-shops-to-share-customer-data-snitch-on-people-who-use-aftermarket-parts-leaked-contract-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>404 Media <\/em>report<\/a>.
