Bad Boys 4 <\/i>may have offered a not-so-subtle reference to that time Will Smith<\/strong><\/a> slapped Chris Rock<\/strong> at the Oscars.<\/p>\n

The film hit theaters Wednesday, June 5, and features Smith, 55, being repeatedly slapped by Martin Lawrence<\/strong> while experiencing a panic attack, which some have interpreted as a nod to Smith hitting Rock, 59, on stage at the awards show<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n

The incident was met with criticism, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer<\/strong> said he would \u201cabsolutely\u201d work with Smith on another Bad Boys<\/i> film during an interview with The<\/em> Hollywood Reporter<\/i><\/a> that same year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill made a mistake, unfortunately,\u201d Bruckheimer, 80, said. \u201cThat\u2019s not who he is. He\u2019s a phenomenal actor and there\u2019s always forgiveness in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith offered an apology via Instagram<\/a> following the slap, calling his actions \u201cunacceptable and inexcusable.\u201d He added, \u201cI would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith attended the premiere<\/a> of Bad Boys: Ride or Die<\/i> in Dubai last month alongside his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith<\/strong>, their children, Jaden, 25, and Willow, 23, and his eldest son, Trey, 31, whom he shares with ex-wife Sheree Zampino<\/strong>. The pair put on a united front to celebrate the release of the film,\u00a0 which landed in theaters 29 years after the first Bad Boys<\/i> was released.<\/p>\n
