It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a new take on <\/span>Superman<\/em><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n Writer-director <\/span>James Gunn<\/a> is taking on the classic comic book hero for his first feature film as the co-head of DC Studios.<\/span><\/p>\n When Gunn and co-head Peter Safran announced their plan for the new DC Universe, beginning with their\u00a0Chapter One: Gods and Monsters slate, Safran <\/span>described their updated take<\/a> on Clark Kent\/Superman. While it’s not an origin story, the film — originally announced as <\/span>Superman: Legacy<\/span><\/em> — will focus on the character “balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.”<\/span><\/p>\n “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned,” the producer added.<\/span><\/p>\n The Politician’s<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span>David Corenswet<\/a> takes on the cape in <\/span>Superman<\/span><\/em> as the Man of Steel, aka Clark Kent, with <\/span>The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel <\/span><\/em>star <\/span>Rachel Brosnahan<\/a> as his Lois Lane.<\/span><\/p>\n The star-studded cast also features <\/span>Milly Alcock<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Isabela Merced<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Nicholas Hoult<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Nathan Fillion<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Anthony Carrigan<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Skyler Gisondo<\/a>, <\/span>Wendell Pierce<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Beck Bennett<\/a> and more.<\/span><\/p>\n Here’s everything we know about <\/span>Superman<\/span><\/em> so far:<\/span><\/p>\n David Corenswet\u00a0as\u00a0Clark Kent \/ Superman<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Corenswet will play a 25-year-old version of the Kryptonian-born hero, who lives a double life as Clark Kent, a young\u00a0journalist\u00a0for the\u00a0<\/span>Daily Planet <\/span><\/em>newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n When announcing the project, Safran\u00a0<\/span>described Corenswet’s version of Superman<\/a> as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way; he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.”<\/span><\/p>\n Rachel Brosnahan\u00a0as\u00a0Lois Lane<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel<\/em><\/a> star will play Superman’s love interest and Clark Kent’s colleague at the <\/span>Daily Planet.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n ET spoke with Brosnahan<\/a> at the\u00a0Critics Choice Awards in January 2024, and while she couldn’t share many details about the film, she offered three words to describe her version of the iconic character.<\/span><\/p>\n “Feisty, dare I say, marvelous, and fiercely\u00a0intelligent,” said the actress.<\/span><\/p>\n Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El \/ Supergirl<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The <\/span>House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> alum will make her first on-screen appearance as Superman’s cousin\/fellow hero in Superman, before leading her own <\/span>Supergirl<\/span><\/em> film, set for a June 2026 release.<\/span><\/p>\n Isabela Merced\u00a0as\u00a0Hawkgirl<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Making perhaps the quickest hop from Marvel to DC, the <\/span>Madame Web<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/i>star will star as the winged superhero, who has made minor appearances in various DC properties throughout the years, including the CW’s <\/span>Arrow<\/span><\/em>-verse. It has not yet been announced which iteration of Hawkgirl Merced will play in <\/span>Superman<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Nicholas Hoult\u00a0as\u00a0Lex Luthor<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n After appearing in four <\/span>X-Men <\/span><\/em>films as\u00a0Henry “Hank” McCoy \/ Beast, Hoult is returning to the superhero genre as Superman’s main antagonist, with <\/span>Gunn promising<\/a> the English actor’s take on the character will be\u00a0“a Lex that will be different from anything you’ve seen before and will never forget.”<\/span><\/p>\n “I couldn’t be happier,” Gunn shared when <\/span>confirming the news<\/a> in January 2024.\u00a0“Here’s to Lex (and Nicholas!), one of my very favorite characters in the DCU. \ud83d\ude4c\ud83e\uddec\ud83d\udd2c\u2697\ufe0f.”<\/span><\/p>\n Nathan Fillion\u00a0as\u00a0Guy Gardner \/ Green Lantern<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n A casting favorite throughout Gunn’s career, <\/span>The Rookie<\/span><\/em> star will <\/span>actually get to show his face<\/a>\u00a0(and, hopefully, keep all his limbs attached) in <\/span>Superman<\/span><\/em>, portraying a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Guy Gardner is a different iteration of the galactic peacekeeper than Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan from 2011’s <\/span>Green Lantern<\/span><\/em> — the character is canonically known to be gruff and shaped by a violent upbringing.<\/span><\/p>\n Anthony Carrigan\u00a0as\u00a0Rex Mason \/ Metamorpho<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n After playing DC villain<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>Victor Zsasz\u00a0on Gotham, the <\/span>Barry<\/span><\/em> star <\/span>has said he was excited<\/a> to suit up as a hero in <\/span>Superman<\/span><\/em>. He also shared that Corenswet’s take on Clark Kent is approximately 25 years old in the film — making him older than\u00a0<\/span>Tom Welling’s<\/a> high school version of the character in <\/span>Smallville<\/em><\/a>CAST<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
