Crucially, the Windows 10 end of support date of October 14th, 2025 is still unchanged. \u201cJoining the Beta Channel on your Windows 10 PC does not change that,\u201d says Microsoft.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-pullquote mb-20\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup relative bg-repeating-lines-dark bg-[length:1px_1.2em] pb-8 font-polysans text-28 font-medium leading-120 tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20  dark:bg-repeating-lines-light dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple\">Microsoft changed its mind on new Windows 10 features late last year<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Microsoft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/4\/27\/23701134\/microsoft-windows-10-updates-end-of-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">originally said<\/a> it was done with major Windows 10 updates last year, before its change in approach to bring more features to an OS that will be officially unsupported in around 16 months time. The software giant describes this change as a way \u201cto make sure everyone can get the maximum value from their current Windows PC.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Consumers using Windows 10 will also be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/12\/5\/23988896\/microsoft-windows-10-extended-security-updates-consumers-paid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">offered paid security updates<\/a> for the first time ever once the OS hits end of support in October 2025. Microsoft recently revealed businesses will need to pay $61 per device for a year of security updates. That fee doubles to $122 for the second year and then doubles again in year three to $244. Pricing for consumer security updates hasn\u2019t been revealed yet, with Microsoft promising it \u201cwill be shared at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Microsoft continues to try and get consumers to upgrade to Windows 11, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/6\/29\/22555371\/microsoft-windows-11-cpu-support-hardware-requirements-tpm-response\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">millions of PCs can\u2019t upgrade<\/a>\u00a0officially to Windows 11 due to its strict hardware requirements and Microsoft\u2019s security push with its latest OS. Windows 11 is only supported on CPUs released from 2018 onward and with devices that support TPM security chips.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Windows 11 usage has lagged behind Windows 10, with <a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/os-version-market-share\/windows\/desktop\/worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">StatCounter listing<\/a> Windows 11 at nearly 28 percent of all Windows version market share for May 2024.
