Just like their TV counterparts, the cast of House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> are taking sides in the fight between Team Black and Team Green.<\/p>\n

Season 1 of the Game of Thrones<\/em><\/a> spinoff ended with the fictional land of Westeros in conflict over who is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne \u2014 King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney<\/strong>) or Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D\u2019Arcy<\/strong>). The Greens represent Aegon, taking on the colors of House Hightower\u2019s flag, while the Blacks back Rhaenyra and are represented by the typical Targaryen colors.<\/p>\n

As a refresher, the late King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine<\/strong>) previously declared Rhaenyra as his heir before welcoming Aegon and two other children with Rhaenyra\u2019s former BFF, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke<\/strong>). On Viserys\u2019 deathbed, Alicent believes he told her that Aegon should be his heir, though viewers know Viserys\u2019 mention of Aegon\u2019s name was actually a reference to King Aegon the Conqueror\u2019s Song of Ice and Fire prophecy, which he previously shared with Rhaenyra.<\/p>\n

Though Aegon II concluded season 1 with a crown on his head, Glynn-Carney, 29, isn\u2019t necessarily rooting for his character in the new season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I\u2019m a feminist, so I\u2019d quite like to see a woman in power, so I think the Blacks,\u201d the actor exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> at the House of the Dragon<\/em> season 2 New York City premiere at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday, June 3. \u201cHowever, that\u2019s not the film that we\u2019re playing right now. We\u2019re playing against Black.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unlike Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell<\/strong> is sticking with his character Prince Aemond Targaryen\u2019s Team Green allegiance. \u201cSpeaking from my point of view? No, I don\u2019t want to say,\u201d he teased before telling Us<\/em>, \u201cI\u2019m Team Green through and through.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was Mitchell\u2019s character that furthered the conflict between the two sides, as he and his dragon, Vhagar, accidentally killed Rhaenyra\u2019s son Prince Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault<\/strong>) in the season 1 finale. \u201cHe\u2019s faced with a choice after killing Lucerys,\u201d Mitchell, 27, teased. \u201cHe can either return home and admit it was a moment of weakness \u2014 that it was unintentional and he didn\u2019t mean to kill Lucerys and be at the mercy of Rhaenyra \u2014 or he can go home and own it and claim the kill, so to speak, and become the most wanted man in the realm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also repping Team Green on and off the small screen is Phia Saban<\/strong>, who plays Aegon\u2019s wife and sister, Queen Helaena Targaryen. \u201cI am so brainwashed, spending all my time with Team Green,\u201d the actress, 25, explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cI don\u2019t think I can actually see a world outside of it. \u2026 It\u2019s hard because I do take on the show through the lens of my character and that\u2019s my paradigm. So, from Helaena\u2019s perspective, she\u2019s so inside of it. So, I find it quite hard to align with the pro-Blacks propaganda I\u2019m hearing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tFire cannot kill a dragon \u2014 or a franchise. HBO is returning to Westeros with the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and once again the cast is almost unrecognizable outside of their wigs and costumes. Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen, has donned plenty of unusual outfits during his career, but even [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Harry Collett<\/strong>, who plays Rhaenyra\u2019s eldest son, Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, told Us<\/em> that while he does \u201cfeel bad for [the] Green[s] sometimes,\u201d he and his character are rooting for his onscreen mother. \u201cI genuinely would love to know what Team Green people think when they say, \u2018Oh, I think the Greens deserve the throne,\u2019\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

Lord Corlys Velaryon actor Steve Toussaint<\/strong> also agrees with his character\u2019s support of Team Black. \u201cI think Rhaenyra does have the stronger claim because in whatever anyone has said, the king said to her, \u2018You are my heir,\u2019\u201d he told Us<\/em>. \u201cAnd then, of course, all the lords came and bent the knee to her. So that\u2019s the law. So, even if I was just watching it and not involved in any way at all, I would still be like, \u2018Well, no. That\u2019s right.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Other Team Black supporters on the NYC red carpet included Bethany Antonia<\/strong> (Lady Baela Targaryen) and Jamie Kenna<\/strong> (Ser Alfred Broome).<\/p>\n
