Simon Cowell<\/strong><\/a> is back \u2014 and he wants to create the next boy band 14 years after the success of One Direction<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery generation deserves a megastar boyband, and I don\u2019t think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years,\u201d Cowell, 64, said in a press release on Tuesday, June 4. \u201cThe industry tends to focus on solo artists \u2014 so it usually takes someone from outside to put a group together. Nothing beats the fun of being in a group, touring the world and performing for thousands \u2014 and it\u2019s also a brilliant launchpad for a solo career.\u201d<\/p>\n While Cowell was a judge on The X Factor in the 2000s, he famously brought together Harry Styles<\/strong>, Niall Horan<\/strong>, Louis Tomlinson<\/strong>, Zayn Malik<\/strong> and Liam Payne<\/strong> to form One Direction in 2010. While the group went on hiatus<\/a> in 2016, they all went on to pursue solo careers<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cA huge number of solo artists began their journey in a group and have achieved great success, including Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong>, Sir Paul McCartney<\/strong>, Robbie Williams<\/strong> and our very own One Direction,\u201d he reflected. \u201cEven artists who came from High School Musical<\/em> were effectively launched from groups.\u201d<\/p>\n Cowell added that forming a \u201cgreat group\u201d is like finding \u201clightning in a bottle\u201d \u2014 and he\u2019s hoping he\u2019ll be lucky enough to strike twice. The singing competition judge put out a call to action on Tuesday with a billboard in London to announce his search for musicians for a new band.<\/p>\n \u201cSimon needs you!\u201d read the billboard, which also included a picture of Cowell\u2019s face. \u201cFuture megastars wanted for new boy band. He\u2019ll make stops in Newcastle, Liverpool, London and Dublin.
